I cannot install signed plugins

Unread post by travolter » 2015-06-24, 19:22

I use palemoon 3.6.32 /XP /Atom machine

I have a little problem with the new FF signed addons

Code: Select all

Pale Moon could not install the file at

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/53003/addon-53003-latest.xpi?src=dp-btn-primary

because: Signing could not be verified.

Plz I need a hack or way to install the addons. I know that my version is outdated, but it performs faster than any of the new releases in my (old)machine

With old browser, you'll have to use matching old addons in most cases.

I'm sorry but this is entirely mozilla's fault for not using proper signing. They use "their own", undocumented, signing procedure. The only way you can install your favorite extensions will be to crack open the XPI and removing the signature folder (META_INF) which will effectively remove the bad signature files.

As an aside: running 3.6.32 puts you at significant risk on the open internet, since there are known security vulnerabilities in that browser that are not and will not be patched, not to mention a large and growing number of websites not rendering properly (or at all) anymore on that version of the engine. The 3.6.* version range has been unsupported for a long while now - you really should consider updating to a current version. Your old hardware may still be chugging along as-is, but the web moves forward.

Perhaps you could try the Atom/XP build?

Big thanks Moonchild !!!
Editing and removing the META_INF dolder allow installers to work again! ;)

I know all security holes that I could get by using and outdated browser but I really love the speed of the "old" palemoon. Btw using it without javascript/flash to avoid malwares and also on a freezed computer if something goes wrong
