XP versions
I am wondering if the two XP versions of Pale Moon are the same or different.
There is the Intel Atom™ and Windows XP build which can be downloaded at: http://www.palemoon.org/palemoon-atom.shtml
There is the Pale Moon for Windows XP which can be downloaded at: http://binaryoutcast.com/projects/pm4xp/
Thanks for the help.

Re: XP versions
Pale Moon for Windows XP (PM4XP) is built like the main-line versions for general use and was ment to fill the gap by v25 being made Vista+ for stability and technological reasons but PM4XP will be discontinued July 14th due to End of Life of the last consumer available NT 5.x version of windows (Server 2003).
Pale Moon for Atom is specifically built with a compilation optimization bias to Intel Atom processors and with several preferences tweaked for low-power and low resource systems as well as some additional feature removals (mainly devtools). The fact it runs on XP is inconsequential except that many low power atom machines can only run Windows XP.

Re: XP versions
Thank you for the clarification.
I have been using the Atom version on my old laptop (Dell Latitude D600). It is faster than the Pale Moon version that I used a year ago and Light Firefox. This is an accidental discovery since I thought that you had stopped updating the other XP version.
Thanks for your efforts to make such a great product.

Re: XP versions
There are several SKUs (if you like) of Pale Moon..
Main-line which is just regular Windows Pale Moon x86/x64
Pale Moon for Linux
Pale Moon for Mac (Future)
Pale Moon for Atom (Which does support XP)
Pale Moon for Windows XP (which is technically a 3rd party contrib and supports Windows XP specifically but built like Main-line)
Pale Moon for Android (discontinued)
There are also a couple other on again off again variants.. Hope this clears it up.. So yeah we do alot..

Re: XP versions
I wonder if PM4XP will be renamed to Pale Moon for ReactOS afterwards? (since ReactOS is still targeting Windows 2003 compatibility in near future)Matt A Tobin wrote:Pale Moon for Windows XP (PM4XP) is built like the main-line versions for general use and was ment to fill the gap by v25 being made Vista+ for stability and technological reasons but PM4XP will be discontinued July 14th due to End of Life of the last consumer available NT 5.x version of windows (Server 2003).

Re: XP versions
We will do a ReactOS version at some point but it will be published by Moonchild Productions directly.. it won't be a contrib.. It also will likely not run on Windows at all just ReactOS.
Re: XP versions
That's interesting Matt. How likely will a ReactOS version be? I only ask because I thought ReactOS was still eons away from being a stable, usable product. I am still VERY interested in it though.
Re: XP versions
Not yet usable as a replacement for Windows, its final purpose -JodyThornton wrote:because I thought ReactOS was still eons away from being a stable, usable product.
but perhaps as an OS on its own, with adopted applications?

Re: XP versions
ReactOS, despite the renewed effort in development with community support, should still be considered in Alpha stage and not recommended as a day-to-day use OS yet.
This is also why the Pale Moon build specifically for it is mostly on ice - It needs more basic things implemented (like proper font support) for it to be a useful platform to spend time on building and maintaining.

Re: XP versions
OK well, I need to figure out what to do with my Mom's XP box. I'm running the XP build of Pale Moon on it (I put on FoxE9 so it would be at least a tad similar to IE) and she loves it. But after about August, I'll be a tad weary of her running it still. Maybe Seamonkey, I'm not sure yet.

Re: XP versions
Jody,
Since your mom probably doesn't need the developer tools (which is the only major thing missing from the Atom build) you should feel confident in switching her over to the Atom/WinXP version come July.
