HTML 5 audio mp3 doesn't play

Unread post by John connor » 2015-03-15, 08:57

For some reason I can't get HTML 5 mp3 audio to play in pale Moon. I'm using the latest 25.3.0 x86. I have tried safe mode and I have tried an older version of Pale Moon Atom build on my netbook and both exhibit the same result. If you go here and remove the ogg code and just use the mp3 code the player disappears. The computer I am using is Windows 7 and the netbook is XP SP3. Firefox plays the HTML 5 mp3 audio fine on both computers. I have Googled this issue and found someone else having the same problem I have. I just use Windows firewall and Bitdefender Free. I disabled Bitdefender Free and I still couldn't get mp3 audio to play. Which doesn't make sense because Firefox plays the mp3 audio just fine. I even disabled all addons in both browsers in both computers and still the same result.

Any help would be great!

TIA!

It works perfectly in Windows 7. However, Windows XP does not have Windows Media Foundation so it can't play MP3s because it offloads to system codecs via WMF. This is a known issue and a solution IS on the agenda for PM4XP and PM4Atom but I have not had time to do it yet.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Check to make sure media.windows-media-foundation.enabled = true in about:config

It is set to true.

I don't understand it. On another computer running Windows 7 it works. I just installed Pale Moon into Ubuntu and it doesn't work. Just ogg.

You are giving me contradictory information. Please indicate what Operating Systems you have tried it and what ones do not work for MP3 Playback.. Also KEEP IN MIND MP3 playback is UNRELATED to ogg or any other codec playback especially when those are working.

Computer A: should work.
Computer B: should not work.
Computer C: Should work.
VMWare-hosted Ubuntu: Depends on GStreamer -- see the Linux board.

So only A is an odd situation that should work but does not.

That is correct. It is not on this laptop. I'm thinking about doing a fresh install, but I have made several about:config edits relating to tabs, the serach box opening in a new tab and cache. It's just a pain to reconfigure everything. Is there a way to back those settings up?

I just tried another computer with Pale Moon 25.3.0 x64 and HTML 5 MP3's don't play in here either. I loaded the Web Developer console and this is what it says.
Specified "type" attribute of "audio/mpeg" is not supported. Load of media resource https://blog.systechforum.net/blogaudio.mp3 failed. @ https://blog.systechforum.net/
I have the same thing occur in the first computer I was having trouble with as well in the console.

I have no issues playing either, BUT I noticed when you go to the direct link, you will get a challenge from CloudFlare. If it's an embedded file, then the CF challenge will prevent it from being loaded. i.e.: not a problem in the browser but too tight CF restrictions on the forum.

I think I have your country blocked hence why you got the challenge. I'm in the states so there is no block. Still doesn't explain why the link in my first post doesn't show mp3 HTML 5 content and the error I see in the console.

I think I have found a solution, backport the Directshow support from the firefox code which supports mp3 from version 26.

Unless you are on Windows XP that code (that will be backported to atom and maybe PM4XP if it happens before EOL) will make no difference to you and will not even exist in Main-Line builds because they do not run on Windows XP.

I just wiped out pale Moon completely, profile, registry and every folder, rebooted, installed fresh and I still can't get HTML5 Ogg to play.
