Enable plugin on single/specific websites?

Unread post by back2themoon » 2015-07-07, 00:23

Hello, is there some way to enable, let's say Flash on Facebook alone, and have it disabled everywhere else? I could be wrong here, but I think the "Ask to Activate" option (which seems to only way to whitelist specific websites via Page Info) leaves the plugin disabled, but still detectable by websites that can ask the user to activate it.

AFAIK, the Click to Play per-element extension will prevent the 'Allow' popup from showing. It'll just turn all plugin elements into grey squares and leave a little icon in the address bar where you can still enable an address. There is no 'whitelist' function that makes Flash undetectable on non-whitelisted pages unfortunately.

No need for an extension.
In page Info -> Permissions, you can set individual plugin permissions for your plugins.

But that requires the Add-ons Manager/Ask to Activate setting, right? Never Activate makes the plugin inaccessible in Page Info.

Correct, because "Never activate" means the plugin isn't loaded into the browser at all. That's a hard line that should never be crossed.

So, it's impossible to keep plugins loaded/unloaded on a per site basis? That's was what I was hoping (the possibility of it). It's only possible globally.

... You either load a plugin or you don't. :)
Whether it is actually active and usable on a per-site basis is what is done with "ask to activate" and using per-site permissions to activate the plugin for that site or not. "Ask to activate" is pretty much the behavior you are looking for because it will restrict use on all sites unless you give it permission. If you then choose to "allow and remember" it won't block the plugin again next time.

Thanks for the info. I think some websites, while supporting HTML5 for video playback, they'll give priority to Flash if detected so when Flash is on "Ask to activate" there's no way around it. Perhaps an extension could help here.

If you notice this and prefer flash enabled, as said above, you can go to page info and set it to always enable on that site - it doesn't have to be triggered by the page first that way.
