New Java Installation (How To ?)

Unread post by Philoupes » 2017-12-22, 10:45

Hi All,

I'm new on this forum and very new to Pale Moon.
I try to find the information both on Internet and this forum but I cannot find the good info...

My problem is :
I need Java to work in my browser and I was using Firefox until they break NPAPI ...
I'm under Linux system and I need Java for professional reasons...
So, after a little research on the web I want to try PM... So I install PM = No Problems (seems to work fine)
Now I want to install and activate JAVA in PM but ... Nothing...

Java was working fine in FF before they deprecate it.

I haven find some "How to" install and activate JAVA in Pale Moon

Can some one help me please ?

Thank you very much
Philippe

Most Linux distros use the IcedTea-Web Plugin to execute Java applets. If you do not have it installed download it from your distro's package repository. Then in Pale Moon enable it in Tools>Add-ons>Plugins.

Hello Terryphi,
Thank you first to spend your time with my problem.
Yes, I have the IcedTea-Web plugin installed (java-1_8_0-openjdk-plugin/share/icedtea-web) and that's worked fine with the precedent version of FF.
Actually, when I go to Tools>Add-ons>Plugins there is nothing visible nor in Plugins or Extensions pages...
I have red that we need to make a symbolic link but every post I have red talk of differents sub directories ... That not clear for me.
I have try one with "ln -s /usr/lib64/javajava-1_8_0-openjdk-plugin/lib/IcedTeaPlugin.so /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/IcedTeaPlugin.so" unsuccessful...
Any ideas ??
Thanks a lot
Philippe

Hello All,

I come back because I have found a solution and may be it's can help any other members... I hope ... :D
Finally, problem seems to be very simple but ... Not so logical.

For memory, my system is a OpenSuse Leap 42.3 AND 64bits ... So I'm used to install 64bits applications (for years... :wtf: )
And so, I have installed a 64bits version of PaleMoon.... Work fine for the basically use but remember, not with Java Plugin...

After big look on differents websites and forum I've understood that due to 64bit incompatibility.

Now it's not so logical but after some differents tests (install / uninstall / Java / PM etc etc)
On my system I have installed the 32bits version of Pale Moon AND uninstall the IcedTea AND install the "Next Generation Java Plug-in 11.151.2 for Mozilla browsers" 64bits version of Java by Oracle... (in /usr/lib64/... libnpjp.so file...)
And that works !!

I'm not a specialist but I was really surprise that mixing a 32 an 64bits version work and don't be a problem for a system

I hope my explanation can help someone if necessary

Have fun and happy new year for all
Philippe
