pdf viewer/plugin
Hello members
I use a lot of pdf documents for work and also downloading/viewing a lot of pdf files/documents for building construction.
Is anyone able to suggest a good plugin option for pdf files?
Another plugin I'm unsure about is the Java Deployment toolkit?
Any help is very much appreciated, thanks

Re: pdf viewer/plugin
It is generally discouraged to use a pdf plugin in the browser (for safety/security purposes). However if you really want to use one, you can try PDF-XChange Viewer; it is a free PDF reader program that also has a plugin. Disclaimer: I don't use the plugin so I don't know how well it works/looks/etc.

I've been using Fox-It for several years with no problems. I haven't used the "real" Adobe thing for years -- since back when it was "Acrobat Reader." Fox-It was much lighter and quicker to load. I don't know how they compare currently.

Not by me. Just the opposite; I think PDF.js is a good deal safer than a native code reader could be expected to be. It's written in an interpreted language, not subject to buffer overflow, with highly-scrutinised sandboxing, and running a reduced PDF feature set; that's a lot more than can be said for any other PDF reader I've heard of.helloimustbegoing wrote:It is generally discouraged to use a pdf plugin

Take a look at SumatraPDF.
And for Java Deployment toolkit: You should disable this if you're not a java developer.

Re: pdf viewer/plugin
I'm having trouble finding still-available plug-ins for PDFs. Pale Moon 64-bit (the most recent version) on Windows 10 doesn't seem to recognize either the foxit plugin or PDFXChange. Installing an old version of Sumatra (before they removed their plugin) doesn't seem to give me a plugin that PM can recognize, either. I can't find Adobe's PDF plugin. Being able to view PDFs in-browser is the only FF feature I have missed since switching to PM.
Re: pdf viewer/plugin
Did these plugins work on 64-bit Pale Moon on earlier versions of Windows?
Re: pdf viewer/plugin
I don't know, I hadn't used Pale Moon on older versions of Windows, nor have I used PM versions prior to 26.helloimustbegoing wrote:Did these plugins work on 64-bit Pale Moon on earlier versions of Windows?

Re: pdf viewer/plugin
Just to rule it out, is plugin.scan.plid.all in about:config set to True (default)? If somehow it got flipped, it would need to be reset.
Re: pdf viewer/plugin
plugin.scan.plid.all is set to True for me. Other NPAPI plugins (Flash, Silverlight, and Unity Webplayer) work fine.
