Firefox Extension Changes

Post by RandyMcD » 2015-08-22, 05:32

Apparently Firefox is changing their Extension engine (probably don't have all the right terminology). By Sept 22 all fiefox extensions will have to be re-written. I don't care about Firefox (tryin' to get off it for years). My question is - how is that going to effect Palemoon. Keep using my old extensions or is Palemoon switching engines also???

They aren't necessarily "changing" it, as there won't be anything new; they are removing the option to have XUL (overlay, native chrome) extensions, leaving just SDK (Jetpack) ones as an option. Rewriting XUL extensions into SDK isn't even always possible, to begin with, so they are using another gun to shoot themselves in the foot.I wonder if they have any toes left? ;)
Pale Moon will not do this, and in fact, prefers XUL extensions over SDK ones (which will be the only option left). See also my blog entry about Mozilla on the way to deprecating itself, really.
