pop-up said Adblock Plus BLOCKED: Correction, Better Privacy
Today is August 3, 2015 (Monday) and about 1:15 p.m., a pop-up from Pale Moon appeared saying that the extension "Better Privacy 1.68.1-signed" was unstable and could cause stability issues so it would be blocked, and asked if I wanted to restart the browser now or later...
I looked at the bottom left side of the pop-up and it had a link to click "for more information" so I clicked it and it took me to Firefox link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/pm100 -- which says "We're sorry, but we can't find what you're looking for."
I then chose to click the "x" up in the right side of the pop-up box and close the pop-up that way.
I went to Firefox and looked up Better Privacy and there is no recent mention of it being unstable or causing crashes in browsers.
I then closed Pale Moon and opened it again to see if Pale Moon had, indeed, blocked the extension...but it had not, at least not yet.
Question: Is Pale Moon intending to block Better Privacy? I surely don't want to lose it.

Re: Pale Moon "pop-up" saying Adblock Plus BLOCKED
Adblock Plus? or Better Privacy? or what?
For ABP see viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9025#p60391
Better Privacy is not blocked.

Re: Pale Moon "pop-up" saying Adblock Plus BLOCKED
I'm sorry for the confusion...I mistakenly put "Adblock Plus" in the title and then used "Better Privacy" throughout my posting; yes, this was "Better Privacy" this happened to.
The pop-up said explicitly "Better Privacy 1.68.1-signed" was unstable and causing problems, and it was going to be blocked from use after I restarted my browser. I checked my add-ons after I restarted my browser, but it wasn't blocked after all. Therefore, I'm wondering if you will be blocking it in the near future.

Re: pop-up said Adblock Plus BLOCKED: Correction, Better Pri
ADDENDUM: I just looked in my add-ons and I see Pale Moon did block the "Adblock Plus" extension, so I will need to get a replacement for that.
However, even if it sounds difficult to believe, especially since others are talking about Adblock Plus being blocked/removed on today's date of August 3, that pop-up really did say "Better Privacy 1.68.1-signed" was going to be blocked...honest. I just wished I would have grabbed a snapshot of it to prove it to you. It appears that I need not worry about Better Privacy, at least for now.

Re: pop-up said Adblock Plus BLOCKED: Correction, Better Pri
I have checked the blocklist and Better Privacy is certainly not blocked, Adblock Plus was for incompatibility (as Moonchild stated in the other thread). Maybe there was a mistake... Can you install it (BP) again? I have it running here and it works still fine.
As for a replacement for Adblock, I have linked a few in the linked thread.

Re: pop-up said Adblock Plus BLOCKED: Correction, Better Pri
The only thing (and the ID mentioned in the URL matches it) that was added to the block list today was ABP, because it causes issues. Better privacy wasn't touched, unless it was rolled-in by Mozilla in their blocklist (that was used as a basis for this new updated list) - certainly not our doing, and certainly wouldn't have ID "pm100" (which is for ABP).
I know the current details page is a 404 at Mozilla because the item checking URL has not been updated in the browser itself, which is annoying but can't be avoided right now. Since Mozilla doesn't block ABP, they won't have a page for the ABP ID.

Re: pop-up said Adblock Plus BLOCKED: Correction, Better Pri
@SvenG Thanks for your assistance. My Better Privacy works just fine. What is really disappointing now is to discover that I can't use Adblock Plus any longer...I haven't had any problems with it. I'll just try to read up on what others are saying about your other linked options and try to make a decision; either get one of them or go back to Firefox (which I hope I won't need to do). Thanks, again, Sven.

Re: pop-up said Adblock Plus BLOCKED: Correction, Better Pri
Odd issue. Must have been Gremlins?
If you want something similar to ABP try Adblock Latitude, that is virtually no change. The uBlocks are different, good blockers but different.

@SvenG
Well, I haven't seen any Gremlins yet today!
Question:
Pale Moon forum gave a link to uBlock @ the Wilders Security forum http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/ ... er.365273/ where Gorhill (the creator of uBlock) discusses uBlock...in all 56 pages (I'm up to page 20 so far). I'm really seriously interested in getting uBlock after reading so much about it and following all the links...it sounds super! I've known from day one that Adblock Plus was a huge resource downer, and have learned even more while reading about uBlock. HOWEVER, before I keep getting more excited about getting it, here is my question:
Will my NoScript interfere with uBlock?

Re: pop-up said Adblock Plus BLOCKED: Correction, Better Pri
Nope, well, it could be that you block things twice and enabling them in the one results in a block on the other but that happens on adblock as well. Else they work perfectly fine together.Shalimar wrote:Will my NoScript interfere with uBlock?

Re: pop-up said Adblock Plus BLOCKED: Correction, Better Pri
@SvenG: I hope U don't mind, but I'm so excited that I just had to report back to you regarding the replacement I chose for Adblock Plus...
After finishing that 56-page forum on uBlock and discovering the creator's project now is uBlock Origin, I downloaded UBlock Origin. I must tell you a funny story. Before I enabled it, I had decided to disable Windows Media from my Windows 8 PC, and therefore did so. However, I wanted to take a quick peek at Alex Jones' live show on infowars to see if I wanted to watch that first. I clicked the website video and to my shocking surprise, the audio control was missing (I always need to turn it down immediately), and then I saw that all the controls were missing...yet Alex was talking. I decided to go back and enable the Windows Media again...it must have been the reason for no controls.
After enabling Windows Media, I went back to Jones' website, BUT the controls were still missing...yet Alex was talking, and then I realized I was looking at a video "commercial." I had not seen a video commercial since 2008, since I had downloaded Adblock for the first time.
Then it hit me...I needed to enable uBlock Origin, and I did. I went back to Jones' website and voila, all controls were back and no video commercial. I was so used to Adblock Plus and NoScript blocking commercials and ads, it had taken me a minute to understand my real problem.
As for uBlock Origin, I still want to know everything about it. You can use it "right out of the box." However, I did check a few more filters (filters I had seen the creator say he had used). I checked out a few websites and it was pretty cool to compare the number of items blocked when using uBlock Origin by itself to when using both it and NoScript together.
Okay, now here is something that is t-r-u-l-y amazing...
From day one, I was always frustrated that Adblock/Adblock Plus was adding "at least 200-250 MBs" of memory to my browsers, but there was no way I would go without it...yet, I really never could get used to its heavy footprint. I had read that uBlock Origin was much easier on memory and I was looking forward to seeing what the difference would be. It was only after I had played around with uBlock Origin for a couple of hours with 3 windows open and about 3 dozen tabs, I remembered to take a look at the Task Manager to see the memory usage Pale Moon was displaying --- which I was guessing would show about 600-700 MBs. WOW, I was wrong...it showed 262 MBs!!!
Plus...today, I have been in my browser for about 7 hours so far, since about 9:00 AM, and I just looked at the Task Manager: Pale Moon memory is using "190 MBs"
---WOW...this is truly hard to believe! Normally with Adblock, it would have been showing in the range of 600-800 MBs for the same manner in which I'm using it now with uBlock Origin. I wish I could have been allowed time to check Adblock's usage before it got removed from my browser, but I do know that uBlock Origin is saving me from using up a whole lot of memory usage...and this makes me an extremely happy-but-still-shocked-camper! I have never seen my browser memory usage this low since 2008-09. This is one of the best things I've ever had happen to me PC-wise and I'm loving every moment of it!
