Warning: potential bustage due to Illimitux

Post by Moonchild » 2012-02-15, 08:16

I have received a report about a serious bug caused by the "Illimitux" add-on in Pale Moon, One that apparently requires a complete wipe and re-install of the browser and profile to be fixed. I'm currently investigating this issue and will post an update when I know more.

Details:
Web pages will stop displaying properly after the add-on is installed. Removing the add-on again does not fix the problem, it permanently damages the browser installation.

Original bug description:
It will not display properly in palemoon no matter what i try. It displays a black screen with a few texts and links. however, if you view it in Firefox, SRWare Iron, or Internet explorer 9, It displays correctly and without flaws.
After going through the troubleshooting steps, making a clean install and adding add-ons one by one, it turned out to be caused by:
A Third party extension by the name "Illimitux 4.3". There website is listed here: http://www.illimitux.net/

After this extension is installed, it does something to the core files in palemoon that is irreversible without doing a complete uninstall and clean reinstall of palemoon.

Update: This add-on has now been verified to irreparably breaking the Pale Moon content engine in 9.x.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS ADD-ON IN PALE MOON! It will break page display and cause other issues like preventing logins.

I will add this add-on to the blocklist for the next release.
