Translating French web pages back to English

I have just loaded Pale Moon on my MX Linux 32 bit installation [MX Linux 23.6 - Debian GNU/Linux 12.13 (bookworm)] on an older ASUS laptop I want to save from the rubbish bin. I found no way in Firefox to get it to translate French language pages back to English not getting a translation option when right click on the page or nothing in the tool bar. French language extensions were installed however when you went into setting, Translations nothing could be selected or enabled as nothing was listed and the controls were disabled. It showed French Language installed. I read on some discussion that it perhaps required a more modern processor than mine Centrino 686 and that I should use Pale Moon. All I have read so far in Pale Moon instructions suggests that language packs such as French are designed to load in Pale Moon interface in French rather that translate French web pages back to English like I want to do.
Perhaps I am misreading this. What do I need to do to enable French language web pages back to English in Pale Moon? My location is France but I am an English speaker.

You understood correctly that the language packs (and dictionaries) available for Pale Moon are for the situation opposite to yours: they are for people to have the browser translated into French (in the user interface) and have French spell-checking.

What you want, instead, is a translator extension. I'm not sure if there are any currently-maintained ones, other community members may be able to point you in the right direction. Otherwise using Google Translate or similar web-based translation services and feeding them the French page URLs might be a solution.

Despite I do not like the G***** things, Google Translate does a fair job translating an entire page (giving the URL) preserving the visual appearance, at least between the main languages. I once used it to translate back from Russian to English a short 1975 SF story by Harry Harrison (Гарри Гаррисон ) of which the orignal text is not available.

Thanks for confirming my understanding of language packs.
I know that I had the French translator extension installed on Firefox ESR however it was not seeing it when you went to setting / translators. I did not expect that this would be a limitation of the 32 bit versions of Firefox ESR, if that was what was causing the situation I was observing.

I suppose my question could be best defined as what 32 bit web browser can I run that will support a translator.

I can use Google to translate however I am keen to avoid if I can everything Google, Apple or Microsoft.

That's only if you insist on having the feature built into the browser, else try this. 32/64 bit is irrelevant where extensions are concerned.
