Privacy Ferret

Post by Halvar » 2026-02-06, 19:37

Hi everyone,

I’d like to share a new Pale Moon add-on I’ve been working on called Privacy Ferret.

Privacy Ferret is a fork of the old XUL version of Privacy Badger, adapted specifically for Pale Moon. The goal is simple: keep the original heuristic-based tracker blocking alive on Pale Moon, without relying on large filter lists.

I want to be very open about something up front:
I’m not a programmer and I’ve never written a line of code myself. This project was developed with extensive help from ChatGPT 5.2, with me acting mainly as a coordinator, tester, and reviewer. That also means there may be rough edges, so please be gentle :)

This is my first attempt to contribute something back to the Pale Moon community. I’ve been using Pale Moon since its early days, and I wanted to give something back rather than just be a user.

The add-on is currently in BETA:
  • tested on Linux and Windows
  • stable in everyday browsing so far
  • clean error console
  • still under active cleanup and refinement
I would really appreciate:
  • testing
  • bug reports
  • technical feedback
  • suggestions from more experienced developers
Any help or advice is welcome. Even just pointing out mistakes or bad ideas is useful.

Thanks for your time, and thanks to the Pale Moon community for keeping this browser alive.

Halvar.
