So, security through obscurity absolutely does work, to a pretty high degree. But it can't easily be quantified to what degree and that's something to always keep in mind (and something that's generally not accepted in environments where certainty about security levels is demanded).
Off-topic:
Are you speaking of it depends on the threat level?

If so, I can possibly buy that.

But if you are up against really high level players and not some rando hacker, you have your work cut out for you even using open source stuff.

Although with open source, at least then ransomware is highly unlikely same with getting hacked. Unless your passwords are absolute garbage that is. ;)

I'm speaking in general terms. And no, the "level" of the players doesn't matter. To keep the example: if I'd hide a pin code inside an address entry in a file with many addresses and give no information I've actually done that (and how+where) to anyone, then "high level players" will be just as clueless as a "rando hacker".
But this is becoming a pretty big tangent now. if you want to discuss further please move to a new topic.

you're not that important for someone to target only you.
True, but we've all seen individual <insert forum here> users get butthurt because of their own insecurity and try their hand at hAcKiNg in whatever form ... and some few are decently good at it, again in various forms. I don't need to expose myself to that risk, even it it is small in the big scheme.

You don't update your extensions? PMPlayer is currently at 1.9.1.

Depends on the extension / how much I care for it. PM Player was installed more out of curiosity. Opening video in another window, I just rather open it in PotPlayer then rather than the browser.
