Tab Mix Plus: Tab groups bug back again?

Post by RedDwarf » 2013-10-02, 16:33

There was a bug in v24.0 where the tabs behaved as if in groups and could not be scrolled with the mouse very far without stopping when using TabMix Plus. I was happy to see that in the next release the issue was fixed and everything was working as it was in the v20 releases. However with the latest v24.0.2 it's back to the same problem :(

I don't use tab groups so it shouldn't be an issue but the tabs still won't scroll more than a short distance without stopping. The only way to continue scrolling is to use the arrow buttons on the tab bar. I have lot of tabs open so notice this a great deal.

Hi!

Welcome to the forums! I wonder if you try also the Pale Moon Tab Groups add-on http://www.palemoon.org/tabgroups.shtml as Moonchild did state the code of Tab groups is a bit different from the one in FF and this may break your add-on too. From now is this a huge step away from Firefox (that always know what is good for us... and force us to use it  ) so please bear with us for the hiccups. Some pro help will come as soon the timezones move around the world. ;)

From what I heard a lot of people are having issues with the latest version of TMP, and that includes Firefox users. I think the extension may simply be in need of a major update to be compatible again. For Example, it may mess up your session restore, and even remove the "restore previous session" button from about:home when installed.

Thank you, I didn't think about that. It seems strange that it seemed to be working correctly with v24.0.1 but not with v24.0 and v24.0.2. I did read that there was an issue with v24 and assumed that v24.0.1 fixed it. It certainly seemed that way.

It looks like I will have to go back to 24.0.1 rather than have the issue until it gets fixed.

The funny thing is that nothing has changed between 24.0.1 and 24.0.2 that would influence the handling of tabs or tab groups. 24.0.2 has been focused on solving CPU/UI issues with standalone images and an internal build config change to merge x86/x64 architecture sources into 1 (which won't affect the binaries). So if something is different in that respect that influences TMP and you can reproduce the regression for TMP between the two versions, then you can let them know it is likely related to their code for tab icons (Pale Moon from 24.0.2 onwards draws favicons on a canvas instead of raw linkage to the source file) and they have to have a look there.

24.0.1 hasn't fixed it, at least re-installing it hasn't. So unless settings are messing things up somehow, maybe it is TMP. However, I am sure that it was fine on 24.0.1 after noticing it on 24.0.0. Maybe I didn't test it thoroughly enough.

A new TMP version seems to of made the problem worse. I can not scroll as many tabs now as I could on the previous version. :(

In fact I can scroll all the way back, using my mouse wheel, through the tabs up to the first tab, it's scrolling the other way which doesn't work and sticks.

To make the situation even worse, the scroll buttons on the tab bar, which I have had to use to force the tab scrolling past it's stuck point, keep disappearing! It means going into the TMP options and forcing them to show.

What you describe is the regular tab strip and that certainly should not have anything to do with tab groups or the add-on...
I'm afraid I can't provide any further assistance. If the add-on update made it worse then it's definitely something in the add-on not playing nice, but since that's the realm of the TMP devs, you should ask them for support.
