New to Pale Moon

Unread post by Hart547 » 2024-04-05, 13:34

Hello everyone!

I'm new to Pale Moon, and I in need of a little help. When I open my browser I keep getting a page that says I have to download Firefox in order to use Qwant as a search engine. I already have WaterFox installed. How do I get rid of this annoying page? See attachment.

Thanks!

I suspect that "extension" is a webextension made for firefox/etc.

If you want to use Qwant, I would try it from https://addons.palemoon.org/search-plugins/#qwant

Thank you for your reply!

I should have given more info. When I open Pale Moon, two pages load. One is the attachment page, and one is Qwant. I don't understand why I'm still getting the attachment page, or how to stop it from loading. It's irritating... lol

This is probably an unrelated question, but I see you said you have Waterfox installed. You didn't copy over Waterfox's profile into Pale Moon, did you?

I got the attachment page to go away. (kind of) Now there's an icon on my qwant home page that says "add qwant to firefox." If I click on that icon that same irritating page loads, and tells me I have to download firefox to use qwant. I have waterfox downloaded, and I'm already able to use qwant. Is waterfox not considered firefox??? What the heck??? Help.

That's entirely up to Qwant. It thinks you're running Firefox (likely because of our user agent string mentioning a compatibility Firefox slice by default) and as a result wants to push their extension on you.
You can remove the Firefox string from the user agent in preferences (Preferences -> Advanced -> tab "General" -> User agent compatibility mode) by setting it to "Gecko compatibility" or "Native". Please do note that might make some other websites complain that the browser is "unknown".

Um.... yeah I don't need any hiccups with my websites. I just don't understand why qwant isn't recognizing waterfox as "firefox."

Thanks for your suggestion though!
