how to move tabs to bottom of screen?

Unread post by etc1760 » 2024-01-15, 17:06

hello,
i am running windows 7 64x.
i would like to customize the tabs to locate them near the bottom of the screen, directly above the taskbar. HOW?

every browser that can run on windows 7 locate the tab bar up near the address bar.
firefox used to allow customizing the tabs location with the tabmixplus addon, no more.

You mean directly above the status bar, right?

(The Taskbar is an OS thing, and really has nothing to do with a Pale Moon window. The only way their placement would be related is if you have your Pale Moon window maximized.)

Perhaps this is what is meant?

It can be done, but it seems to me that it is inconvenient. On the contrary, I move the taskbar up, because the window control buttons are on top and in order to switch between windows, move/collapse a window, you don’t need to move the mouse across the entire screen.

tabs bottom .jpg

like the above picture. the taskbar in windows has the clock at its rightmost side.
as seen in the picture, i am running firefox 107 with a userchrome script to override the default tab placement.
so two issues:
1) firefox is no longer updating and supporting a browser for windows 7
2) updating firefox to the latest window 7 version will break the userchrome script

i am looking for a supported window 7 browser that can locate the tabs to the bottom.

First check if Pale Moon is suitable for you as a browser.

If it turns out that you think Pale Moon will work out for you, there is this add-on that may be useful to you as well - Pale Moon Add-ons - Tab Mix Plus

As somdcomputerguy's reply... the Pale Moon Add-ons version of TabMixPlus includes a Tab Bar on the Bottom option (TabMixPlus Options > Display > Tab Bar > Position > Bottom)... which works AFAICS after quick test on a new Pale Moon 32.5.2 profile. :) (Although its as mad as a box of frogs IMHO! :wtf:  ... eyes and mouse pointer reflex all over the place!)

And another thing...

1) The current Firefox ESR is based on Fx115 which still supports Win7... ESR 115 security updates will continue until Fx115.15 ESR is finally superseded by Fx128.3 ESR on 01 October 2024... after that no current Firefox version will support Win7. :(
2) Updating your Firefox to latest ESR 115.6.0 should still allow you to have your Tab Bar on the Bottom userstyle working with a few tweaks to your Fx107 CSS. There were some Firefox CSS codebase changes between Fx107 and Fx115... principally changes to Firefox's default element display-model introduced in Fx113 (CSS code changes in Fx113 summarised here)... you should be able to sort those out... or post your current CSS userstyle here under a 'Hide' tag ('Hide' option on top line of forum's editor)... or try searching/posting on r/FirefoxCSS for help? :)

If sold on having toolbars on the bottom why not go the whole hog? Try MrOtherGuy's excellent and regularly updated GitHub repo 'Collection of random CSS hacks for Firefox'... and find his 'toolbars_below_content.css' userstyle. Then, because you'll need a version that works with Fx115 ESR, or even Fx107, and not the current release channel's Fx121.0.1... press the 'History' button top right on that userstyle's GitHub page... a Commits page opens offering previous versions of the userstyle... you'll want a version around or after the release date of Fx115 which was 4th July 2023.
