Select multiple tabs

Post by wannahockaloogie » 2023-09-02, 20:50

[Forgive me if this is a repeat question, but I searched "multiple tabs" (with and without quotes) and get >500 returns, and the quotes don't seem to do anything because the returns are the same both ways, so anything that has both terms anywhere are included.]

Is PM the only browser anywhere that does not allow selection of multiple tabs to do simple tasks like reload/close/etc.? I'm hesitant to add extensions not included in the PM-approved search - I have seen suggestions in some threads to use old versions of FF add-ons, and do use one called FoxyTab that allows -tabs to the right and -tabs to the left actions, but only some of the functions that show up in FF are visible in PM (for me at least), and Reload is not one of them. And either way manually selecting specific tabs of choice is not part of the equation.

But unless there is an add-on to do this that I am not seeing, I may have to resort to that kind of risky option because it is infuriating to have multiple tabs open and be forced to, for example, manually relaod each one one-at-a-time because I can't select the ones I want to reload and do them all at once with a single right-click action.

If anyone has any suggestions for a work-around or knows of an unofficial extension that is safe and has been successful with PM I would be very grateful.  8-)

Tab Mix Plus usually has one covered for everything you would want to do with tabs - it has the option to close/reload all tabs to the left or right of the current one, maybe that might be useful for you. It's a very comprehensive extension and can customize the tab context menu, so explore its settings and you can add/remove the tab context menu items you want (including what I mentioned).

If you want to CTRL click on an arbitrary set of tabs (that are not adjacent) and act on them as a group, I don't think Tab Mix Plus can do that.

There is a tab groups add-on that can act on more than tab as a time when they are in the same group. But that's not what you are looking for is it?

Correct - I don't use Tab Groups, and so I had looked at the description for TabMixPlus but it didn't seem to fit the bill. And the extension that I use in both FF and PM that I mentioned (FoxyTab) has all sorts of functionality in FF but very little (and no way to customize settings) in PM.

It just seems odd to me that in the normal FF (and a different fork that I tried) the ability to select multiple tabs simply holding down Ctrl has always been the standard functionality, meaning that PM must have deliberatey removed that feature. Why?? And maybe even more surprisingly, why has no add-on restored that function to users that would like it back? Just seems like a really odd standard feature to go out of your way to take out of your browser. :eh:

Anyway, thank you both for your replies.

Why would they do that? No, that feature was added later into FF.

I use Multiple Tab Handler 0.8.2016083001 (last working version), but you can't find it anywhere, I think.

Here it is, original and my MOD. MOD should be better, but I don't remember what did I change:

Multiple Tab Handler 0.8.2016083001.xpi
Multiple Tab Handler 0.8.2016083001(MOD).xpi

As a start, you added a "PaleMoon" section to install.rdf - so that it will install in PM.

Off-topic:

Nope.
SeaMonkey also does not do that ;-).

Well, that is the 64 Million Dollar Question, isn't it? I can't think of a good reason other than there being a specific coding issue when developing PM, but not knowing always makes the absence of this function even more irritating. I guess I have a low threashold for being a whiny little bitch. :shifty: Not sure if I agree that it was added later because I don't really remember that not being a feature...but some days I forget what I had for lunch , so you could be right. ;)

Thanks! Will try that out when I get a chance.

Or you could also try not to jump to conclusions thinking something unknown was done on purpose. :D
