FEBE Doesn't Work With Basilisk

Unread post by credible » 2023-04-11, 06:22

FEBE backup plugin works great with Pale Moon.

However, this plugin has issues with Basilisk - installs well, but I cannot go to options to set it up.

Hello credible,

open the add-on-manager, select FEBE > Preferences. There you can configure the add-on.

Are you using this one?
https://addons.basilisk-browser.org/addon/febe/

If that one has an issue, perhaps this older version for Firefox v49.0 - v56.0.4 might work.

Thank you, I know how to use FEBE, it works great with Pale Moon, but not with Basilisk.

Yes, I installed from official Basilisk Add-on directory, but it doesn't work.

What exactly doesn't work in FEBE with Basilisk?

On Basilisk only, latest FEBE build from Basilisk add-on directory won't allow
me to go to FEBE options and set it up.

Perhaps look to here, it's their old support forum.

http://www.customsoftwareconsult.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=17485#p17485

That whole thread could be helpful to determine the issue.

Edit:
More interesting reading. Mentions resizing of options and FUEL deprecation.

I have a new basilisk profile and I can configure it when I open the add-on manager and select FEBE and click on Preferences. No problem here. Linux Mint 21.1 with Mate Desktop. Have you tried with a new profile?

 If you take another look at the Basilisk Add-Ons site, you'll see that FEBE's latest version is 10.4. I have FEBE-10.4 installed with Pale Moon 28.16.0 (32-bit Linux). Why it's included on the Basilisk Add-On site is a mystery to me. It was designed to work on Pale Moon 28.* ONLY (I don't know if the author of FEBE even knew anything about Basilisk or not). Again, 10.4 is the last version he put out, so if 10.4 won't work on the latest Basilisk, I sincerely doubt that any earlier version would.

Off-topic:
Meh, you don't have to bother with FEBE and similar tools when all you need to do is backup the entire profile folder while the browser isn't running, along with the profiles.ini located just above it. Everything you need is in your profile folder - bookmarks, extensions, history, preferences. Also since this isn't Google or Mozilla, regular updates don't break extensions. Milestone releases (such as 31 to 32) are when it pays to backup the profile first so that you can rollback to the previous version if things break. Goes without saying that you cannot downgrade a profile otherwise.

To save space, before performing the backup you may want to clear the browser cache.
@arkaland - upgrade your browser, it's extremely outdated. Don't stick around with an old version just because of an addon
Else you will be told to do so the next time you come here with any technical problem. Also note that the version compatibility for addons shown on their webpage is not a hard stop unless the addon uses strict compatibility; most of them don't. So even if an addon says upto 28.*, there's no reason it won't work on 32.*.

FUEL deprecation.
FUEL is here to stay indefinitely. Been that way since 29.4.3.
