Legacy Pale Moon Versions with MHT MAFF Support

Unread post by pmark020 » 2023-03-09, 05:08

Operating system:Ubuntu Linux 20.04
Browser version:I installed Version 32.0.1 on three machines before I realized MHT/MAFF no longer supported
32-bit or 64-bit browser?:64
Problem URL:Would Like to get installation download with MHT/MAFF support (V28 or earlier I believe)
Browser theme (if not default):
Installed add-ons:MHT/MAFF add-on.
Installed plugins: (about:plugins):
I remember installing a Portable version of Palemoon back when MHT/MAFF
were supported. If possible, I'd like to find the instructions for doing that,
using the older legacy version. No need for the external media support, just
want to install it on my Ubuntu 20.04 servers the way it was originally explained.
If there's a repository for the legacy add-ons would like to know where that is.
I have two legacy versions of PaleMoon still running on Ubuntu distros. Worst case,
if I cant get a legacy install (portable, or otherwise), is it possible I could excise the
installed modules from their current Ubuntu platform, and transplant them into my
more recent Ubuntu 20.04 platforms? Sorry to post a question this complicated,
it never occurred to me that the MHT/MAFF add-ons would be discarded. IMHO,
it would be well worth the time to maintain a legacy version of PaleMoon with that
support. 'Portable Web Content' is extremely timely and valuable these days.
Any response very much appreciated. Just in case: ted @ cosmozilla.net
is alternate e-mail (had a hard time getting re-registered).
Thanks much. -Ted

Hello pmark020,

you find the Mozilla Archive Format add-on in the Classic add-on Archive:

a) install Classic Add-On Archive:
https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive/releases/tag/2.0.3

b) open the archive (icon) and update the database

c) open the archive and search for Mozilla Archive Format

d) download the file and install it manually in PaleMoon
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Greetings
Maria

MozArchiver adds support for MAFF and MHT to the browser, is natively-compatible, and is available over at the Pale Moon Add-ons Site. You don't have to install CAA and get the original, legacy extension.

Should you need Pale Moon 28 proper for whatever reason, you can find it in the official archives with language packs.
※Pale Moon’s web compatibility has much improved since 2020. These versions are, of course, for testing and historical reference only, and are without any support. The others here have said how you can get your desired function in the modern browser.

Howto install a legacy version of Pale Moon

Unread post by pmark020 » 2023-03-10, 02:03

Moderator note: merged with this topic.

I would like to have an installed version of PaleMoon which includes the save-as MHT & MAFF. (Lets call it a stand-alone portable web-page generator.) I have found the repository for Legacy versions, but have had no luck installing them on any of my current Xubuntu desktops. Any tips/suggestions welcome. Thx.

Mind that ‘Pale Moon’ is spelt with a space, and that builds with bundled extensions are against the licence (§3c) and will therefore be eaten by wolves.

Distributing them is, I'm assuming OP wants to deploy it on his own computers. Back in the day I made an 'unattended' XP bootable disk from instructions on the MSFN forums with my favorite programs that would get preinstalled along with Windows.

Thanks for this suggestion. MozArchiver does exactly what I need, don't need legacy installs anymore. I have successfully installed PaleMoon version 32.0.1 (using it now), but don't know how I got here. When I tried to follow SPussers tutorial installing palemoon under Xubuntu 20.04 using apt, it didn't work. (Spent better part of today trying different things.) I downloaded palemoon-32.0.1.linux-x86_64-gtk3.tar.xz, tried running spussers command-line script, and all the setup steps appeared to work, but the install failed.
Very close, all I need is a script Xubuntu 20.04 will accept and enable Palemoon.
Any tips welcome, very pleased that I may be able to get my goto-browser back and installed on a half-dozen internal use workstations. If I'm able, I'll put together a start-to-finish install.sh script and donate to the forum. Thanks again for helping get this far.
