Pale Moon 32 disables my Theme

Unread post by darkrats » 2023-01-24, 13:39

Updated to Pale Moon 32 and the theme I've had for a very long time (Moonfox3 2.8.0) no longer works. One of the rare times I've been disappointed. Anyone know how to fix this or get an updated version of the theme?

I'm seeing that Moonfox3 is a more or less "official" theme, so I guess you'll simply have to wait for the theme update to be released, and then it will work fine.

By the way, milestone upgrades like this one always disable my lightweight theme for some reason, but it's a case of simply turning it back on, and it works fine.

Thanks for your reply, but I just remembered how to edit the .xpi file and now the theme works again.

1) Change the extension from .xpi to .zip and open the file.
2) Open "install.rdf" in notepad and change the two listed versions from 31.0.0 to 32.0.0.
3) Save the changes and rename to extension back to .xpi.

Yes, that's a hack that may work some times, but if the theme is updated you should definitively use the official version.

People should be careful with this hack, because if update contains interface changes - UI will break, possibly completely.

I have to go with what I have, because the Moonfox3 theme has not been updated since May 2022.

There was no reason to update it in that time. Several months between updates does not mean it is dead.

On that note, updates abound.
