FYI notice - regarding ABL add-on when using the current "Easy List" filter subscription:

Code: Select all

[Adblock Plus 2.0]
! Version: 202208150221
! Title: EasyList
! Last modified: 15 Aug 2022 02:21
Need to disable ABL on "Forbes.com" to get the site to render (otherwise there is a blank page).

What is interesting (seems to be odd) is that if I use "Easy List" updated to current version in uBlock Origin:

Code: Select all

[Adblock Plus 2.0]
! Version: 202208150228
! Title: EasyList
! Last modified: 15 Aug 2022 02:28 UTC
The "Forbes.com" page renders fine.

FWIW note: the EasyList "Version" [202208150228] is different in uBo than the "Version" [202208150221] in ABL - regardless of the fact that both of the two filter subscriptions have been updated (as of this time multiple times back and forth for each add-on) to the "current" version for each of the respective EasyList filters.

What is interesting (seems to be odd)..
Nothing odd about it.
uBO supports far more advanced rules and methods than ABP-based blockers, and is therefore capable of bypassing any adblock detection!

Also, EasyList's version numbering (based on time of upload) differ slightly, depending on which server you're fetching it from:

Code: Select all

https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/easylist.txt
https://easylist.to/easylist/easylist.txt
https://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/easylist.txt
As an alternative for ABL, instead of completely disabling it, you could try using this rule:

Code: Select all

@@||forbes.com^$generichide
It will disable all generic (non siste-specific) element hiding rules at forbes.com.
This is often sufficient, in order to get around certain adblock detection schemes.

That's one way of looking at it. the other way of looking at it is that EasyList is catering to specific adblockers more than to others.

That's not a conclusion you can draw, but I understand you're a fan of the program :)

Actually, the EasyList filter itself caters more to ABP-based blockers than anything else.

Some of the EasyList repo's additional filters OTOH, like 'Easylist Cookie List', seems to be heading in a direction where they gradually prioritize uBO more (due to ABP's limited syntaxes and lack of scriplets).
On several occasions, in the last year or so, ryanbr has choosen not include ABP-compatible fixes for that filter, even though I've suggested perfectly working ones to him!

Worked like a charm  (and as you say is a far better approach)... Many thanks Tomaso . (it's not something I would personally know to do, so as always, appreciate the feedback)
