He recalls there used to be a guide on the internet about how to use VLC plugin to play youtube videos on legacy Firefox
If your friend uses Windows, then there's a better alternative to VLC: "MPV Player".
I made an Add-On with which you can play Youtube Video without opening the Youtube page:
1. If you are not on the Youtube page (with Video):
- "Ctrl Key" held down + "Click" on a Link to Youtube Video (e.g. Link from Google search results page) = Opens MPV Player with the Video from that Link.
2. If you are not on the Youtube page (with Video):
- "Click" on the Button opens a "prompt box" where you enter the URL of the Youtube Video page ( e.g.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXXXXXXXXXX ) = Opens MPV Player with the Video from that URL.
3. If you are already on the Youtube page (with Video):
- "Click" on the Button = Opens MPV Player with the Video from that Youtube page.
