cannot install or download addons
Hello:
As of December 12 2021 I cannot install any addons for palemoon (Pale Moon) browser.
When I go to any addon page there is a "Only on Pale Moon" button but clicking it only directs to the palemoon.org site. This occurs in Pale Moon 29.1.1 browser.
Is the addon site broken? If not what is the intended way to download/install and addon?

Re: cannot install or download addons
Please update to the current version of Pale Moon. (29.4.2)

Re: cannot install or download addons
Thanks, but I use some addons which are not compatible with 29.2.x versions. Therefore I cannot update to that version. Does this mean that if someone do not want to use the most recent Pale Moon version he cannot install addons?
Why are not the addons available independently of the browser for downloading? Then one can install (or at least try to install) in whatever version he wants.
Thanks,
suseuser04

Re: cannot install or download addons
It means that you won't be able to install or download add-ons directly from the project's Add-ons Site (Phoebus).suseuser04 wrote: ↑2021-12-12, 20:39Does this mean that if someone do not want to use the most recent Pale Moon version he cannot install addons?
But if you happen to have a locally stored .xpi, or if a compatible add-on is hosted and made available elsewhere, it should still install or download.
These changes that affect add-on installation, AFAIK, were made to Phoebus rather than to the browser, probably late last August.

Please keep wild speculation to a minimum, thanks.

Re: cannot install or download addons
This raises the question how the addon site checks the browser, how it identifies if it is Pale Moon and what its version is. I changed the general.useragent.override setting in version 29.1.1 to the useragent used by version 29.4.2.1 but it did not help. If the addons site can check if the browser I use is Pale Moon and what its version is, other site can do it as well. I thought that changing general.useragent.override I can spoof my browser's identity, but it seems I cannot. I consider this a privacy issue. Please correct it if I am not right.
Re: cannot install or download addons
Either stick with your outdated copy of the browser along with ancient extensions and understand you're on your own, or update it to expect to be able to use the server infrastructure that is paid for by Moonchild himself (for the forum and addons). Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Off-topic:
I don't. If you think so, then I think you don't understand what privacy is. Let me give you a hint: having privacy doesn't mean you are anonymous in public places.

Re: cannot install or download addons
This also raises the questions how
1) Pale Moon add-ons are supposed to be installed on Waterfox (which I could do in April, but no longer, for the same reason)
2) How people who like me never do anything "auto" but exclusively manually (for good reasons - burnt child shies fire, as we say in German) are supposed to actualize without having the .xpi file on hand. Obviously not at all.
Seems that Pale Moon is getting more and more "proprietary" ...

Re: cannot install or download addons
No, they are not. If you're referring to ones on the Pale Moon addons site. Going forward with reversion to Firefox's GUID, they might.
All XPIs are locally stored under <your profile location>\extensions with the name of the XPI being its unique identifier. You can find out which is which by opening about:support, it lists all installed extensions along with their IDs. Feel free to make a backup from there while the browser isn't running.

Re: cannot install or download addons
Alternatively, export your addons from the addons manager with ExtExp to save them to disk:
https://realityripple.com/Software/Mozi ... ns/ExtExp/

Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. Comodo Internet security or Comodo Firewall + Avira Anivirus.
Re: cannot install or download addons
Go to Help - Restart in Safe Mode - download your add ons. After downloads are added close out and restart normally. You will be able to change the options, etc.
