How to add plugin Macromedia Shockwave Player 10.1.3.018

Unread post by stutcliffe811 » 2021-09-09, 13:58

I'm running Windows 8.1 with version
Pale Moon 29.4.0.2 (x86 en-US)

I have installed to my computer
Macromedia Shockwave Player 10.1.3.018

but it is not showing up on list of add-ons. How do I add it to Pale Moon? Is it a problem with Pale Moon or my operating system or both?

This version of Shockwave Player works (intermittently) on VM Windows XP with IE 6.

(I have already successfully added Adobe Flash Player 32.0.0.371 to my Pale Moon.)

You have to make sure it is the correct installation of Shockwave. i.e. 32-bit and the NPAPI version (which is different from the version for IE).

Also, if you insist on running Windows XP at the very least update your IE to the latest supported there. IE6 is pretty much having your front door wide open and big neon arrows pointing to it saying "HACK ME" :P

IE uses ActiveX, for Pale Moon you need an NPAPI plugin.

The installer should install both the IE version & the .dll plugin for all else.

Did you actually install Shockwave (& not just copy a pair of .dll's)?
What does about:plugins show?
What does Addons Manager -> Plugins show?

You are using the 32-bit version of PM?
(Shockwave is only 32-bit, so 32-bit browser is required.)

Shockwave is likely installed into a place like, \Windows\SysWOW64\Adobe\ (With the \Director\ subdirectory containing the actually plugin).

And all that said, I'm guessing that PM will be blocking Shockwave in any case.
You'll have to set the about:config Pref, extensions.blocklist.enabled, to 'false'.
(I'm not sure that is the correct way to go about it - probably not, but at least it should get it done.)

Doesn't that only affect Extensions and not Plugins?
These are NOT the same.
As I know about:addons controls if plugins are disabled, click-to-play or enabled.

It's not in Add-ons Manager (about:addons) or about:plugins. I was able to add Shockwave 12 to Pale Moon as a plugin (and removed it).

I toggled extensions.blocklist.enabled to true and nothing happened.

I'm seeing
C:\Program Files (x86)\Pale Moon\plugins
np32dsw.dll
ShockwavePlugin.class

Shockwave isn't in System32 folder (see attached). Do I have wrong version of it i.e. not 32 bit?

Here is the about:config. I did not change anything manually. Did the Shockwave install set these specifically the np32dsw? What should it be?

Check if an old version of Firefox detects it if you think Pale Moon is the issue.

The activex installer has NEVER installed the npapi plugin or vice versa. They have always been different installers. Same goes for the ppapi as well if anyone cared.

This is an old Shockwave version from 2006 which seems to attempt to do so, the installer was probably altered at some point later in time : http://www.oldversion.com/windows/adobe ... 10-1-3-018

Also, I get an error stating 'the external program C:\Program Files\Pale Moon\palemoon.exe -osint' cannot be found' when it runs on my testing, on a 32bit netbook running the same version of Pale Moon albeit on Windows 7... Just thought I'd point that out as I don't think OP did.

Please check with an old Firefox version.
If it doesn't work either, it is not a PM problem.

Let me note... when I looked, I was looking at Shockwave 12 - which is different from 10.
(Installs to different places & whatnot.)

With 10, it seems the "copy" method does work, but you have to put the files (np32dsw.dll & ShockwavePlugin.class) into a /plugins/ subdirectory within your Profile folder [not in the PM instalDir].

(I'm not seeing any "plugin.state.*" Prefs in about:config, fwiw.
[plugin.state.np32dsw did turn up after changing the plugin state in Addons Manager.]
Likewise, what I mentioned about extensions.blocklist.enabled, you can disregard (with Shockwave 10) [so set it back to 'true' if you changed it].)

Now, if 10 actually works is yet again another story?
https://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/index.html
On that page, 10 comes up "blank". With 12, you do see something (with an added message, in my case, about "Xtra (text)" & "Xtra (font)".

@ 576tomoyo
I got two messages when I installed

Windows cannot find '"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -osint'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Could not execute the external program "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -osint.

I didn't know what they meant so ignored them because they were about Firefox. FYI when I went through the installer for Shockwave it listed browsers Internet Explorer (11 is installed - IE6 is on the VM) and Pale Moon, nothing about Firefox... Shockwave 10 didn't work on IE 11 but it worked on IE 6 virtual machine...

As far as testing on old Firefox I have Firefox 88 installed now. Can I run two different Firefox without setting up another VM?

@therube

Coincidence you mention about Xtras I was reading on StackExchange (https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questi ... wave-games) can add Xtras if needed.

Looks like you have Shockwave 10.3.0.24. I should try to add that version...

I am seeing
%APPDATA%\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\0wrcb03j.default

There is no plugins folder. Should I create one and copy there the np32dsw.dll & ShockwavePlugin.class?

Yes I copied
np32dsw.dll
ShockwavePlugin.class
from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Pale Moon\plugins
to
%APPDATA%\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\0wrcb03j.default\plugins

and it works! Thank you everybody! :D
