Singing Stallman: now on Pale Moon!

Unread post by KlarkKentThe3rd » 2021-05-07, 06:27

After following Moonchild's guide, and pestering a certain user (you know who you are) for several days, I finally learned what basic computer terms mean, and was able to port Singing Stallman to Pale Moon. I know I have ported successfully because I am using it on 29.2.0 right now!

Download it here: https://mega.nz/file/XhZmQRoS#EnrwwfbIBT4uYvwsAImaxejH1-akhZZa_pgCEXVgENs
MEGA is all I have, but it will do fine.

As of right now, I am not yet learned enough to maintain this extension if it breaks for someone. If it does not work on your machine, I cannot fix it (yet).

Classic Add-on Archive link: caa:addon/singing-stallman
Released under GNU General Public License 3.0, same applies to my modified version.

So you're stealing the branding?

So yeah you are stealing branding, left invalid jar signing in place, didn't bother to even change the version or anything, using mega as a distribution scheme.. No AUS and it is jetpack.

Man, there is no start to your talents is there?

Don't forget explicitly disclaiming maintaining it. In good Mac-like maintainer fashion.
Oh, and it's a nonsense extension. What's next, coffeecupholder.xpi that opens the tray of your optical drive with a browser button?

Well, this was babby's first step in forking. No surprise I tripped and fell on my face. I'll "change the branding" later once I grow the third brain cell and figure out what that really means (already have, it's the crediting). As for "this is a nonsense extension", I see nothing wrong with nonsense. Humor is subjective, is it not?

So are you actually going to commit to at least trying to solve any issues with it too? Because that is kindof a prerequisite for forking something ;-)

I wish I could. I know absolutely nothing, and this was my first ever attempt at any code editing. To show you how little I know, I cannot even tell you what's "wrong" with it, aside from the description not yet saying that it's a fork.

I'd install that right away, especially if it's a CD-styled button.

edit: ok, maybe not.

I can try to solve the issues. If Moonchild would be kind to list them, I will work on the problems on my own. Will probably take me way longer than needed, but eventually I'll fix everything.

You missed my point (again). I'm not going to list anything because I don't know if there are specific issues with it (and I won't touch that garbage). What i asked is commitment to make this effort if and when issues are reported with it. I don't know if there are currently issues with it or not. If you fork something you have to be willing to make that promise for future effort. fork.then(provide updates)

Alright, I can do that. I can also contact the original creator, who is available. Eventually I will polish this wonderful extension.

Please add a WIP to the thread title to make it less misleading (I now realize it is misleading, since this is not done).

You do know you won't be able to submit this to the Add-ons Site right? Being jetpack and all.

Yes, I assumed it cannot be officially submitted. Maybe in two years once it is actually ported and converted? Until then, it will remain unofficial but technically compatible with Pale Moon.

"Then" might need to come come sooner, not later.
More changes to extension structure are planned, for which the extension would need updating.

If pressured, of course I will try to update the extension. Considering I just started """coding""", and no one apparently cares for this extension but me, it's good news all around.

You forgot the triple-double-quotes around """extension""" too. ;P
