Re: YouTube has apparently gotten around ABL
The way the lunarblocklist (default filter list in ABL) works now seems to be OK to at least get rid of a lot of mid-stream ads (it's something anyone who hasn't been trained to accept like in the USA will absolutely find annoying - I think YT has really gone overboard with their advertising...), but start/end ads might not be that simple. For now it's as good as it's going to get in ABL - so if the remaining ads really bother you that much either stop using YT, use a dedicated viewer, or use a different adblocker extension.

So the options that I have are as follows:Moonchild wrote: ↑2021-05-15, 10:29The way the lunarblocklist (default filter list in ABL) works now seems to be OK to at least get rid of a lot of mid-stream ads (it's something anyone who hasn't been trained to accept like in the USA will absolutely find annoying - I think YT has really gone overboard with their advertising...), but start/end ads might not be that simple. 1) Stop using YouTube
2) Use a dedicated viewer
3) Use a different adblocker
4) Copy across any YouTube URLs to another browser, and use YouTube in another browser with Adblock Plus (what ABL is effectively based on).
I wonder what option I'll be doing...
Sorry, but I don't want to have to sit through 30 seconds of unskippable ads at the start, or 2x shorter ads in a row (again unskippable).

Re: YouTube has apparently gotten around ABL
Well, YT certainly wasn't this bad before. So, you can blame a few sides here:
- Youtube for being more aggressive with their advertising;
- Video publishers using the default YouTube monetization option instead of attracting sponsors;
- Users for continuing to feed into the advertising stream by subscribing to YT channels with heavy advertising.

Well, I mean... hopefully not 4.
After all, why would you go with 4 when you can just use a dedicated viewer? Two were just mentioned shortly before you posted.

If you MUST use Google, Microsoft, Apple services your best bet is to go get Microsoft Edge and set those services up as the WebApps they are using Edge as a web runner and have them as fake-applications on your desktop. That is your best option for these mainstream omni-services.
Of course, not being hopelessly reliant on them is far superior as they will only prove to compromise you eventually.

Re: YouTube has apparently gotten around ABL
For the record, I used Chredge and installed uBlock Origin on it to test the situation there and even there with all relevant filter lists enabled I was still getting the same interstitial ads on YouTube! So there's a lot more going on here than just an ABL or Pale Moon targeting issue.
I guess we need to add an option (5) to the options mentioned previously, which is: Pay Google to have YouTube Premium which they have been pushing hard along with their more aggressive advertising, which allegedly is stream-ad free.
Honestly if you "live on YT and can't do without it" it should be an option; you aren't exactly entitled to free services without ads, even from Google.

So what you are saying is that there is no way to play "ad-free Youtube" on Pale Moon? You have to use a different browser, or program...?Tomaso wrote: ↑2021-05-16, 12:23YouTube's ads are still blocked when using this combo:

Well then, for now, I just use JDownloader, and download the youtube video, then watch it.
Hopefully they will update the adblockers to deal with youtube for PM soon.

Re: YouTube has apparently gotten around ABL
Downloading youtube videos is not a very practical idea unless it is confirmed favourites you can guarantee you will watch again.
I am not seeing any ads in youtube and im not sure if this is down to my adblocker or the hostfile i use on linux.I use ubo and create my own filters as i go along.

Re: YouTube has apparently gotten around ABL
Can you identify HOW to resolve this? Don't you think if it was as easy as all that we would have done it? Do you think Google ISN'T using their shoved through specs with the full plan to ABUSE their position and SHOVE ads or SUBSCRIPTIONS to avoid them down EVERY braindead consumer?

BLOCKLIST DOUBLECLICK.NET AND ALL SUBDOMAINS IN YOUR ADBLOCKER OF CHOICE. ADBLOCKERS ARE NOT MAGIC AND ARE 100% DEPENDENT ON WHAT FILTERS YOU USE. I've gone hoarse repeating myself on this count in every damn new thread spawned here asking about Youtube adsfaithbuilders wrote: ↑2021-05-16, 17:22So what you are saying is that there is no way to play "ad-free Youtube" on Pale Moon? Fix your damn filters, it's not the fault of the browser or adblocker that you're seeing ads.

Share an example and I'll take a look. What adblocker are you using?

Re: YouTube has apparently gotten around ABL
doubleclick.net is pretty much blocked by every single filter list in existense.
Like with all things Google, the issue with YouTube ads really aren't that easy to troubleshoot.
When connecting to YouTube, people seems to be threated differently, according to various criteria, which only Google knows the logic to.
uBO's assets repo has a "ALL youtube issues" thread going on GitHub, which you might want to follow:
