Hard refresh is the same as shift clicking the refresh button, right? This is good, because that shortcut isn't too well known.

Shift-click refresh, pressing Ctrl+F5, ...
But i guess people need more ways to do the exact same thing.

So what exactly does this (or pressing Ctril-Shift-R or whatever) do?

In a particular situation, how would this differ from refreshing normally? When you say that it "skips the cache", what exactly do you mean? Do you mean that the page won't work off of the browser's stored cache when the user refreshes in this fashion?

It completely bypasses all cache lookups for the page and all its resources. For that particular page load, it pretends as if the web cache is empty and forces a load of all resources from the server.
A "normal" refresh will do cache lookups for subresources (but not the main document) like images, style sheets and scripts.

Off-topic:
FranklinDM, what I'd like is kind of the opposite if you can do it. A button to force "Print" and "Save Page" to use the already loaded page and resources rather downloading again. All the old browsers used to do this by default.
