Useragent overrider vs. UXP

Works fine.......thanks

The only problem I have is that my 'User Agent Overrider v0.5.2' no longer works.

Is there a non-computer person like myself way to simply change my user-agents when I wish?

If so, can someone please direct me to simple to understand, & follow instructions on how to accomplish this manual override.......or suggest where I can get a add-on that will work with the new & improved Basilisk.

Thanks in advance,

Bobby ;)

Read the description very carefully.

The caveat is that the override is site-specific, but if you need to change the user agent only to work around sites breaking, it's the perfect solution.
If you are paranoid about being tracked... not so much.

Thanks for the response, but I would want the useragent to be non-site specific......every website I visit should see the UA I choose, & only that UA......until I decide to chose a different UA, as I always had done in the past.......using USER AGENT OVERRIDER 0.5.2

⮞⮞⮞ Any other add-ons that work with :?: NEW & 'IMPROVED' BASILISK :?: like the add-on I mentioned....USER AGENT OVERRIDER 0.5.2 ??? ⮜⮜⮜

PS.......just for my own information moving on......why did the :?: NEW & 'IMPROVED' BASILISK :?: break my OVERRIDER of choice...........PSS......can it be fixed.....is there something I can do to undo this unnecessary 'improvement' so my OVERRIDER can do it's wonderful job again?

That is an extremely dumb practice and will break most websites that do UA sniffing to detect the browser. And if you think that is going to improve your privacy, your modified UA will stand out like a beacon among the several others that are regular Chrome/Firefox UAs.
UA overrides are provided per site to ensure compatibility for sites that break if they don't get the UA that they expect, they are not meant to be used as a privacy tool.

If you're paranoid about privacy, use a properly configured adblocker with up to date subscription lists so that it can simply castrate any advertising/tracking scripts on the page in question.

Thanks for your personal opinions, but no thanks for your negativity.....

So, that said, does anyone else have a non-site specific User Agent Overrider add-on that will work with the newest version of Basilisk, so I can use it as I always have before the powers-that-be did what they did to break my ability to use User Agent Overrider 0.5.2.

Thanks

You gonna continue bitching with colored text and large font sizes or are you gonna learn something?

Might also want to familarize yourself with the board rules before you respond.

With all due respect, I have read the rules & I fully comply with e.

Only use text formatting to emphasize or clarify parts of your post.
Never, ever, format an entire post in larger/smaller than normal font, bold, italics, or a different colour (that won't adapt to different themes).

I suggest you revisit a. ".....if you can't make any sort of constructive comment, then please don't reply......."

That said, do you have anything constructive to add relative to the main points of my OP & subsequent post?

If not, please don't waste my time.

Let someone else, who might be able to help, answer my post with constructive & hopefully definitive responses relative to resolving my problem. Image Image

Ultimate solution: Write your own Basilisk extension to set the global UA override.

Considering the factual statement by Moonbat (the sites' breakage is not an opinion, privacy is most definitely not helped by blanket overrides, and the "negativity" (rather relaying the negative consequence of something) is not a point of view) none of us are very likely going to do this so if you think you really need it for your workflow, then by all means, create an extension that suits your workflow and that works with the new preference.

If I did it would people flock to me offering overwhelming adulation for what would amount of a day's work for the most basic extension?

I doubt it.. So the question is should I do it anyway?

They might? I'd expect you'd at least get a few thankyous because you'll allow continuation of their misconceptions around useragents on the web.

They'll blame him again the next time the UA sniffing breaks.

They already blame me for that and everything else. So what's the difference. ;)

Regarding the User Agent Overrider extension--I know almost nothing about writing extensions, but I was able to figure out how to make a simple edit in the bootstrap.js file in that extension so that it targets the new global override preference. It works fine now. If I can do that anybody can.
BTW, I'm using Windows 8.1 and I use a global override mainly to change the displayed operating system to Windows 10. Makes the user agent a little less rare. Maybe that serves no purpose, but I like it that way.
