Extensions and tips

Unread post by francesco bat » 2020-07-29, 16:32

Hi!
After update Palemoon i saw the notice about firefox extensions.
In Palemoon i use many extensions (45 enabled, 24 disabled: total 69).
Many Palemoon extensions and something else is still Firefox.
Recently i removed some firefox extensions or converted in palemoon extensions, but i have not completely resolved
I hope if you can give me some suggestions to find alternative solutions:

- AppLauncher: This extension lets you launch an external application through the context menu
- bug489729(Disable detach and tear off tab): Workaround Bug 489729 - Clicking a tab once and then moving your mouse in a downward motion causes a new window to open.
- Context Style Switcher: Change Page Style via context menu (or toolbar button).
- Custom Buttons: Gives a possibility to create custom toolbarbuttons.
- FireTray: https://github.com/foudfou/firetray
For this extension i tried kakusu but it warn me it is not compatible with new palemoon versions.
- FlashGot
- Session Manager
- Link Evaluator: Customizable pre-evaluation of web links and linked content
or in alternative:LinkChecker: Check links on a webpage
- MyBookmarks: Creates a formatted page from bookmarks.
This can to be nice just a fork: http://www.catsyawn.net/ma2ten/soft/mybookmarks_en.html
- Select like a Boss: Select link's text just like a regular text (like in Opera'12 browser) - Select like a Boss ;)

- Speed Dial: Direct access to your most visited websites. http://speeddial.uworks.net/
Maybe this is a difficult fork; i use also Speed Start and Superstart. An option could to be added is wallpaper stretch in the window or to add advanced options in speed dial and the user can to add some options. For example in speed dial i added:

Code: Select all

.foo {
    -moz-background-size: 100% 100%;
    -o-background-size: 100% 100%;
    -webkit-background-size: 100% 100%;
    background-size: 100% 100%;
}
- User Agent Switcher: Adds a menu and a toolbar button to switch the user agent of a browser. https://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/

This at all.
I hope in your suggestions ;)
Bye

A few suggestions:
  • bug489729: you don't need it. Try disabling it and drag the tab away from the toolbar (in any direction): a new window will appear.
  • Context Style Switcher: if you don't mind the menu bar, you can do the same with View->Style.
  • User Agent Switcher: https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/sasuga/ is actually an improvement since you can define the user agent for specific domains.

Your question is unclear - since Pale Moon only displays a warning and does not disable your Firefox extensions, what exactly is your problem?

Thank you very much.
I didn't know about View->Style.; now i disabled Context Style Switcher: :)
About bug489729, some years ago i had problems also in Palemoon; with this extension i solved.
Now i try to disable it and i try to use palemoon without it.
User Agent Switcher: i installed Sasuga, but i can't understand how it works :think:

There is no problem.
Since I want to migrate the firefox extensions to palemoon extensions or in integrated options, i am just asking suggestions for this operation ;)

You just put the domain in the first input field, for example "www.example.net", and the new user agent in the second input field.
Then you press "Add" and the user agent will be changed for "www.example.net".
The list below the input fields is to delete the overrides you added.
The improvement over User Agent Switcher is the fact that the new user agent is only for the specific website: it might not be interesting for most uses, but when you meet a website not working properly and people will tell you to change the user agent, you can define that user agent without impacting other websites (that might require a different user agent string.)

For Custom Buttons: you can use Classic Toolbar Buttons (Palemoon)

https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/cstbb/

Or Toolbar Buttons 1.1. It targets Pale Moon.

I added the Pale Moon GUID to a "Not signed" version of Custom Buttons posted on their forum here.
So far it works fine.

If you would like help to do that, take a look here.

For user agent overrides, you can also install PermissionsPlus. It adds extra fields to the page info dialog for a given site so you can directly set the user agent there. After installing it, click on Tools -> Page Info, and then on the Permissions tab of the page info dialog, there will be a section marked 'Override user agent'.

Solved so.
I tried with an horrible site that it shows to Palemoon in mobile version without to can to change settings (automatic layout).
I tried with User Agent Netscape (no chrome for a question of pride) and it shows the page in desktop version :D

I solved also with "Session Manager" with "Tab Mix Plus".
Then i tried Kakusu in Palemoon with wine in Linux and it works and maybe it could to work just in Windows and no Linux (i use Linux).
In any case i solved it in a somewhat rough way this extensions: firetray and applauncher with Kdocker in Linux and with some launchers in traybar and creating sh scrips in a folder executing them from fast dial associating sh files in palemoon with sh in my system.
Very helpful also the extension "OpenDownload".
Now only a few of firefox extensions are still enabled.
I updated this post ;)

DownThemAll is still the best download extension, even though there isn't a native one targeted for PM. I'd use it for as long as it continues to work.

And you don't need speed dial - the new tab already supports a Quickdial of your recent/popular sites.
