I have noticed in a locked thread that some people report Bookmark Favicon Changer working.
I have tried a few versions, including the latest 2.29, but I cannot get it to work.

2.29 gives me the message "This add-on could not install because it appears to be corrupt".
I have also tried 2.25 and 1.64. They install, but just don't work.

Does anyone have an idea how to get it to work?

Sorry about that.
2.29 must have been corrupt. I downloaded it again, and it works.

Live Bookmarks look better and quicker to distinguish on the Bookmarks Toolbar

You've got "Bookmark Favicon Changer" to work? Amazing. Enviable.

With the previous versions of PM the effect was only visible after restarting Palemoon, though it still worked.
But as it looks for me, this add-on meanwhile quitted its functions completely: No change of icons, not even exporting of favicons works anymore (generated icon-file shows up as link at Windows\Recent, but the file itself does not exist).
The developer of this extension has abandoned it years ago and it seems that it did not work with old Firefox-versions either.

I really miss that nice feature!
Live Bookmarks is something completely different.

Anybody here who can explain why this function has got messed up and how to change bookmark icons (preferably without fiddling around with profile files)?

FavIconReloader from CAA worked for me - 0.8.1.

Why can't you get 2.29 to work?
I must have had a corrupt version to start with, but I re-downloaded it and installed it without any tricks.

I've never heard of FavIconReloader from CAA.

Well, now you have. By CAA I mean the Classic Addons Archive. It's a searchable archive of the old addons website before it was replaced by the WebExtensions one in 2017. You can find this and others on it after installing it.

First install CAA from the link in my previous reply - after that, launch it from the toolbar button or tools menu and it will load an offline version of the Firefox addons site as it was before 2017. Search for FavIconReloader from the search box on the site and install it from there. Or just install the extension, then copy-paste this in the address bar to go directly to the extension page - caa:addon/faviconreloader

Thanks. I found it.
It was on the other page.

But as far as Bookmark Favicon Changer 2.29 goes. It's working fine for me.
Try re-downloading it.

It should be 106 KB with the following hashes.

CRC32: C68CF0FA
MD5: 5340FE32DCEE30070F7416113A184589
SHA-1: 6472910A82109BD9839DC697394FE8EC789A3080

If you want to try it and don't have that above, then I'll post a link. If allowed.

Ok, Bookmark Favicon Changer is for browsing your computer for a different bookmark icon. The one I linked to will autodownload favicons for bookmarks that you choose from a folder.

As described, I have Bookmark Favicon Changer (2.29) for years installed in my profile.
It works well with older Palemoon versions (as 26.5, tested just now), then (older forum thread) only worked rough-and-ready (changes not visible at once, but after some restarts) and now (Palemoon 28.7.1) it does not work anymore.
Tried with a complete new profile, it’s the same.

As I do not change favicons every week, I can not say when this happened, but I think it must be somewhere about Palemoon 28.5
So which version of Palemoon do you use?

I am using Pale Moon 28.7.1 with Bookmark Favicon Changer 2.29 by Sonthakit Leelahanon, and I cannot find a fault with it. :?

Ok, after some trials I got some kind of function:
Change favicon – nothing happens. Call up the bookmarked site. Now the default favicon is loaded and at the next second – finally – replaced by the user defined.
Well... I can live with it, but it is not what I would call fine. With PM 26.5 the effect is visible as soon as you click "open" in the dialog box of BookmarkFaviconChanger.

And: Exporting a favicon definitively does not work at all (tried it with Windows and Linux). No file is generated.

I'd say this addon is only partially compatible with recent browser versions. It may fail completely with one of the next updates.
So it would be great if someone could repair it for Palemoon. Maybe just a tiny adjustment in the code would be enough.

– Changing bookmark favicons had been one of the implemented features of good old Firefox that were killed in the course of rapid releases and quality downfall of Mozilla. Why not bringing it back to Palemoon?

Anyone bothered to check the error console?

Not all people posting here are professionals. Be proud that Pale Moon is also popular by the common user => who typically does not know where those "error console" is and how to understand the messages there. – Everyone has his specialised talents.
If I could handle those debug tools I would be able to help myself and would not bother to strain my poor English for seeking help in this forum.

Professionals can't do anything without necessary information.

Opening the web console or error console and copying info from it isn't beyond "the common user", whom we expect knows how to use an application menu.

It's under Tools > Web Developer. Just open it, then again use the extension and see if it generates any error or warning messages.
