Which version of Firebug for PaleMoon 28?

Unread post by firefoxed » 2019-02-13, 17:27

Howdy,

Wondering if there's a "last good version" of Firebug that you all are using.
I'm on PM 28.3.1 32-bit, and Firebug 2.0.9.1-signed installed but is not working (I press the icon and nothing happens).

Thanks in advance.

Is there a reason for using Firebug instead of the built-in devtools?

Yes. Somehow I never realized there were built-in devtools. Are you referring to the menu under Tools / Web Developer? That looks very thorough...
If so, do you know if there's a way to get a button on the status bar to activate the tools? Not seeing one under Customize.
Big thanks for educating me.

There is no button; you can press F12 on the keyboard though.

If the built-in DevTools doesn't satisfy you, try version 2.0.17, that's the one I remember working fine with PM.

Haha, not going to happen... By coincidence F12 is the magic hotkey for "Preferences / Settings" in all my applications.
Wired it to F11, though, and you're right, with a shortcut a button may not be all that important. Thank you!
Looking forward to trying it out.

Thank you too!

Wishing you both a great day.

Mmm not seeing Firebug 2.0.17 on the Legacy Add-On Repo, and the Firebug Releases 403s for me. Any idea where that version can be found?

It's in JustOff's classic add-ons archive

Thank you for the tip! I'd never heard about that.

For anyone on the same track, it's not immediately obvious how to use the archive… but it's not hard either! This is what worked for me:
  • The archive itself is an extension. Install it (the xpi file) from the releases page.
  • Once installed, you'll see an orange cogwheel at the top right of the navigation toolbar. Click it. This allows you to search for an add-on and download it to your file system.
  • On the PaleMoon Add-Ons settings page (Tools / Add-Ons), use the pull-down menu of the cogwheel at the top of the page to "Install Add-On From File"

But WOW... The built-in Developer Tools look more powerful than Firebug. Really impressed. Probably won't use more than 5% of its features.

For future reference...
Classic Add-ons Archive has a dedicated support thread in this forum.
