Addon for creating multiple session backups?
I have just lost my entire session again. No idea what happened, but PM opened with start page, and the bak file is full of stop chars, in other words it's completely fucked.
Apparently I need an addon that would keep multiple session backups somewhere.
Does anything like that exist?

Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
I happened to me too a couple times that PM lost my entire session for no apparent reason. Really annoying. I’ll try this addon.
Edit: PM 27 tells me the addon is not compatible.

Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
For PM 27, you may need an older version. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /versions/

Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
I happily use Session Manager 0.8.1.17 and PM 28 flags it "orange" which should mean "compatible"

Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
The blue/orange indicators are not about actual compatibility, and where did you find version 0.8.1.17? I only see 0.8.1.13 as latest available.

Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
Sorry, 0.8.1.7, I copied (wrongly) by hand. Inherite from some previous installation, I guess.

That is incorrect.Lucio Chiappetti wrote:I happily use Session Manager 0.8.1.17 and PM 28 flags it "orange" which should mean "compatible"
About the blue and orange indicators (some info in the user posts and responces is outdated like mentions of "PMKit" because it was writed from the perspective of PM27)

Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
Thanks, that worked (v0.8.1.7). I have set it to create a new backup every hour, hopefully it will help if PM loses my session again one day.Isengrim wrote:For PM 27, you may need an older version. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /versions/

You should look at these add-on Preferences on the Saving & Restoring tab:Isengrim wrote:Thanks, that worked (v0.8.1.7). I have set it to create a new backup every hour, hopefully it will help if PM loses my session again one day.
- Number of older (crashed) session backups to keep
- Number of days to temporarily keep deleted sessions
You can end up having a lot more session backups than you want or need.
Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
Has the extensions dev team considered creating a PM fork of this particular extension? To my knowledge, there is nothing else like it, and it really is quite useful.
For example, in addition to saving sessions in toto, I find it useful to save specific, named windows as freestanding sessions. That way, I can engage in an exploration or research project, set it aside, and return to it when I wish. If a window becomes filled with tabs, I can save it, close it, then reopen it to keep the number of loaded tabs down. I also used named sessions to move specific work from one computer to another. VERY useful!
If such an undertaking were to be considered, then I would offer a (very) few suggestions for improvements, as well.

Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
Unless you're referring to the developer(s) of Session Manager themselves, there is no "extensions dev team". Extensions are only made (or forked) when interested individuals decide to do so.VLMin wrote:Has the extensions dev team considered creating a PM fork of this particular extension?
Those who want this should consider doing it themselves.
Re: Addon for creating multiple session backups?
Understood. Has any "official PM person" communicated with their dev team about this? Would that be a possibility?Lootyhoof wrote:Unless you're referring to the developer(s) of Session Manager themselves, there is no "extensions dev team".
