I installed it 2 times... 2 different computers, 2 different connections.

Got some kind of Sidebar extension that does not appear related to IDM. There is no mention of it on their site. It does not show up in the extensions list. It seems to be beyond my control and I can not seem to remove it.

Given the lack of integrity from these weird people, there is no way to just live with it.

So, looks like I will have to re-install Pale Moon, twice.

I did not read page 2 of this thread.

You are doing something wrong, it is simple to install. There is no "sidebar extension" involved. I agree they are weird, but I wouldn't blame them for unrelated issues.

Just read this whole thread, and I'm curious - what exactly is the use case for a standalone download manager anymore, that too a paid commercial one, given that DownThemAll has existed for years and is available on CAA to install on Palemoon? I can understand earlier times when you had to download large files over a slow connection - today there's BitTorrent for anything approaching half a gigabyte or more, and DTM does everything a dedicated manager would do in terms of multi-segment downloading, grabbing links, speed limits and pause/resume. Even for grabbing videos from Youtube there have been plenty of extensions over the years.
I used to use GetRight at the turn of the century, and later FlashGet, before moving permanently to DTM. A lot of these standalone programs were closed source and adware (Download Accelerator Pro was notorious).

In the case of IDM, I guess the advantage would be the ease and reliability (due to updates) of downloading and/or grabbing from many websites (not just YouTube and including websites that require user login), multiple file handling/filtering/categorizing etc. The OP (benherrmann) mentioned convenience and speed. You should open a new thread if you want to generally discuss this topic btw, but there definitively still uses for a good download manager. Not as in the past, I agree, but they are still useful.

I don't think I did anything extra to get that spooky Side Bar.

This is the link I used, from MRDA2611's post.

At the bottom of that page:
Then please install this extesion:

I had to wipe out half of my Pale Moon profile, but it is no longer there. Neither is IDM.

I've never understood nor used BitTorrent, so I guess I'll be getting acquainted with Transmission.

To be aware...

IDM Integration
IDM integration (webextension) was removed from Mozilla's addons site.

Mozilla is very secretive, cryptic, with its' extension removals.
So because it says "IDM Integration" does not necessarily mean that it is "IDM Integration" released by IDM (as it could be a same/similar named "product" by anyone - or it could be the one from "IDM" (Tonec).
And there is no easy way to figure this stuff out (as when Mozilla blocks, they pull everything, so there is no longer anything to check against).
Best you can do (& this is with the webextension version, so it is not an apples to apples comparison to what may be out there for the legacy version) is to check the extensions "ID"...

Anyhow, something to be kept in mind - in particular if this item that was banned was in fact from "IDM".

Bug report, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1569556.

IDM (Tonec FZE) Privacy Policy. Looks good on paper.
