Tab Mix Plus and PM28

Unread post by zzz242 » 2018-08-18, 01:44

The PM version of Tab Mix Plus is slightly broken under PM 28. Specifically, if you enter a phrase in the search box and hit Alt+Enter, the results are shown in a new tab located after all your current tabs, even if the option "Open other tabs next to current one" is set in TMP. Furthermore, if that new tab is closed, focus shifts to the tab that is now the last one, rather than the tab that previously held focus.

These problems did not exist in PM 27.

Fortunately, the latest version of TMP on AMO can now be used with PM 28, and it works perfectly. We also know from many statements by the author that it's not going to change. I would recommend removing the version of TMP that is on the PM extensions page, as it is obsolete as of PM 28.

Have a look at tab_mix_plus-0.5.0.5pre.180718a1.xpi here: https://bitbucket.org/onemen/tabmixplus/downloads/, as referenced here: http://www.tabmixplus.org/forum/viewtop ... 484#p73484

AFAICS AMO hosts the same version as APO = 0.5.0.4

That certainly looks promising. I gather it's still an alpha build, though. For me, the current version 0.5.0.4 of TMP works fine, so I think I'll be sticking with it, unless I find problems fixed by the newer version, or until the newer version is released.

Yes, I noticed that the version numbers are the same, yet these two files clearly behave differently. The file at AMO also isn't listed as being downloadable for PM, which seems to reinforce this belief.

That's irrelevant; loads of files on AMO say that - don't make it true.

But I note a difference in file size between AMO 0.5.0.4 and APO 0.5.0.4

I'm puzzled. I downloaded the latest Firefox version (tab_mix_plus-0.5.0.4-fx.xpi) to my hard drive and made three attempts to install it in Pale Moon 28.0.0.

The first time, I just installed the Firefox version over the Pale Moon version and restarted.

The second time, I removed Tab Mix Plus, restarted, installed the Firefox version using the Moon Tester Tool, and restarted again.

The third time, I downloaded the Firefox version of the extension again, this time using Firefox ESR, and installed it in Pale Moon normally, over the Moon-Tester-Tool-installed version ... and of course I restarted.

Each time, Tab Mix Plus remained partially broken as described in the top post. Also each time, Tab Mix Plus was displayed in Pale Moon's extensions list with a blue Pale Moon extension dot rather than an orange Firefox extension dot.

Have I overlooked some key step in getting the Firefox version properly installed?

I'm using tab_mix_plus-0.5.0.5pre.180718a1 and some features still don't work right in PM28. Tab scrolling only goes one direction most of the time and in 0.5.04 it didn't work at all.

Maybe you should try this option?

That fixed things for me.

I've since downloaded and installed tab_mix_plus-0.5.0.5pre.180819a1-testbuild-ef675a1271d6.xpi, from http://tabmixplus.org/dev-builds/test%20builds/ .

So far, every feature I've actually used in Pale Moon 28.0.0 x64 seems to work except for the "Display Opened Tabs List" toolbar button, which now offers a toggle setting between (I'm guessing) alphabetically sorted tabs and left-to-right-sorted tabs, but doesn't actually display a list. Still, the overall results seem to be good, for a test build.

It's great to learn the developer is still active!
