Add-on compatibility with PM 28
I'm happy to know that work is progressing well on the upcoming PM 28. However, Moonchild did say that some add-ons might be affected, and that if we were concerned, we should ask here in the forum for info. I make moderate use of add-ons, but there are two I regard as indispensable:
1) Lazarus , a program that will recover anything I write while in the browser--this has saved my bacon more times than I want to count. I think it is no longer supported or updated (I'm using version 2.3.1), and I know of no similar program.
2) Linkman, a superb bookmark program that I moved to when Powermarks reached end-of-life. I have literally thousands of bookmarks, any of which I can find in about 1 second. I'm using version 8.98.01.
I installed both of these programs at a time when most Firefox add-ons worked smoothly on Pale Moon. I frankly can't imagine being without either of them. My question, obviously, is will they be compatible with Pale Moon 28.

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
One way to test it is to install the unstable version. I have it installed on my wife's computer, and in spite of it being called "unstable" it is pretty stable.
EDIT: You might want to backup your profile first if you decide to install the unstable.

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
Thanks very much, helloimustbegoing, for your suggestion. I wasn't aware that I could install 28 along with 27. And if I want then to uninstall 28, will the computer have difficulty distinguishing between 27 and 28 in terms of what files to uninstall? I've experienced that sort of uninstall problem in the past (though not with browsers). I confess that right now I'm a little reluctant to install PM 28. I have only the one computer, and I depend heavily upon it. I wouldn't want to do anything that might create problems. However, if I decide I do want to try your suggestion, is there anything I need to know? Will 28 use the profile I already have for 27?
Again, many thanks.

Install the portable version.
So much easier.

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
I didn't say that. I don't think you can have both installed at the same time.cyberreine wrote:

Do what doofy said, use the portable. Just make sure you have a backup of your version 27 profile.

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
I can confirm that "Lazarus: Form Recovery 2.3.1-signed.1-signed" does indeed
work with PM 28. Just used it the other day. Yes, truly a indispensable add on.

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
Thanks, doofy, for the suggestion about using the portable version. Had I not heard from Thehandyman1957 that Lazarus does indeed work in PM 28, I would probably have done as you suggest. But Lazarus was the add-on I was most worried about. Now that I know it will work, I feel somewhat less need to check out the one remaining add-on I'm concerned about. Who knows, perhaps someone here has already tried Linkman with PM 28 and will let me know what's what. But I'm very glad you reminded me about the portable version.

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
Just installed beta4 and looking very good so far.
Out of my 84 active extensions, only 1 - Element Properties 10 - was incompatible; I've replaced it with Element Inspector 0.1.2, which seems to work well.
However the KeeFox KeePass plugin is no longer working. Anyone solved that? Guess I could try Passifox instead...

Forked extensions :
● Add-ons Inspector ● Auto Text Link ● Copy As Plain Text ● Copy Hyperlink Text ● FireFTP button replacement ● gSearch Bar ● Navigation Bar Enhancer ● New Tab Links ● Number Tabs ● Print Preview Button and Keyboard Shortcut 2 ● Scrollbar Search Marker ● Simple Marker ● Tabs To Portfolio ● Update Alert ● Web Developer's Toolbox ● Zap Anything
Hint: If you expect a reply to your PM, allow replies...
Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
To follow up on my own post on KeePass, Passifox + the KeePassHttp plugin don't seem to work either. KeePassHttp can be configured OK under KeePass Plugins menu, and Passifox is shown as installed. KeeFox & PM restarted, but no prompt to connect to KeePass.

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
i use keepass extensively with pale moon and other browsers, i personally use "hostname in titlebar" or "keepass helper" to put the hostname of the website in the browser title bar and let keepass' native autotype function do its thing. just a suggestion if other methods fail.Falna wrote:To follow up on my own post on KeePass, Passifox + the KeePassHttp plugin don't seem to work either. thanks to the entire pale moon team for making this project happen so that we can enjoy using our legacy extensions with no stupid decisions by mozco.

Well, you can in Linux (Ubuntu 14.04). I have PM 27 installed in /usr/bin/ and I have PM 28 installed in /opt/. Or more correctly I should say that I have the latest PM stable release in /usr/bin and the latest unstable in /opt/, because I have been doing this since PM 26.helloimustbegoing wrote:I didn't say that. I don't think you can have both installed at the same time.
I can run both at the same time, without any issues.
Cheers,
G.
P.S. There is a bash script I run to check if there is new unstable version, download the tarball, and then install it in the correct directory, and also back up the previous version. I am out of town right now and don't have my laptop, but I can send it to you or post it to the forum (tutorials) when I return home.

Yes, looks like that's going to be the best option - thanks. And thanks to Baloo for the link above too.franstam wrote:i use keepass extensively with pale moon and other browsers, i personally use "hostname in titlebar" or "keepass helper" to put the hostname of the website in the browser title bar and let keepass' native autotype function do its thing. just a suggestion if other methods fail.

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
Just wanted to add that after some time using these extensions, that SimpleMail fails to retrieve email from GMail most of the time. Quite frustrating. I would prefer to have something like Thunderbird or even the old GMail notifier, but that is another story for another day.nord1 wrote:Just to chime in on this, I use PaleMoon 27.9.4 (32-bit) on Windows 10 Home (Dell tablet).

Re: Add-on compatibility with PM 28
You're welcome! I switched over to FossaMail from Thunderbird when I switched from Firefox to Pale Moon. Might just as well have my mail client from the same author. I see no noticeable difference (but, I'm no power user). FossaMail serves me well, hope it will for you!nord1 wrote:LAR Grizzly, Thanks, did try it... will keep it around to evaluate.
