NoSquint damages some UI elements

Unread post by Quorx » 2018-06-11, 08:10

When playing audio streams I noticed an obviously bug: The browser window playing the media only shows a shadowed dark grey box on a dark grey background.

Searching for the reason I first suspected my adblocker or a messed up user profile but finally found out the NoSquint addon as the culprit. After deactivating NoSquint the playing window got back its player controls.

I had noticed this with NoSquint 2.1.9.1signed and found here a Pale Moon specific version 2.1.10. Hoped that had fixed this bug, but the same. You can try it for example with that link: http://streams.greenhost.nl:8080/oudemuziek

Maybe the player controls are not the only UI element impaired by NoSquint and that addon is the reason for some other inexplainable minor trouble.

Hm. Using NoSquint 2.1.10, the link you provided works fine for me. The player controls show up properly, just like in your second screenshot. Could you show me what zoom settings you're using?

Yes, I remember this issue - confirmed here. Perhaps also related to Windows DPI/resolution settings. (custom 125/1680x1050, zoom 100%)

You can also try playing directly any mp3 file here - issue occurs every time. Disabling NoSquint+restart makes it work. You will also notice that NoSquint zoom status switches to N/A in such cases.

Interesting... I can reproduce this on Windows 10 with the defaualt 100% scaling from Windows. Just not on my Linux laptop... Could one of you guys post this to the issue tracker at https://github.com/Gnat008/nosquint/issues while I poke around?

Conversation and findings can be found here: https://github.com/Gnat008/nosquint/issues/7

In case anyone who isn't a Github-er is following this, here are my current findings:
Okay, some good news. Using the latest dev build, this issue is already half fixed. Everything works as normal. The only oddity is that the statusbar still shows "N/A" and it doesn't show it as a site. Therefore, I am not sure if this should be closed as fixed or not...

Thank you, great news. I think you should close it. The problem was the missing playback controls, I doubt anyone will ever need to zoom in/out an audio player.

Yeah, that was kind of my thinking, too. Sounds good! Thanks!

EbonJaeger - After updating to NoSquint 2.2.0 (thanks for maintaining btw) I can no longer log into my router!

It's an Asus RT-AC68U. No error in the console and the returned page consists of

Code: Select all

<HTML><HEAD>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; url=index.asp">
</HEAD></HTML>
Disabling NoSquint rectifies the situation. I haven't opened an issue on your Github, would you like me to or wait until the next update to see if the fix for the audio player issue fixes my problem also?

Cheers.

Updated NoSquint to 2.2.1.
The missing-player-controls problem persists. :(
