Complete YouTube Saver

Unread post by Milouze » 2018-02-15, 22:15

Searched the forum but only found an old thread on this: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=14786

My CYS extension has been working absolutely fine thus far, even after upgrading to 27.7.2 . I'm using x64 Portable version of Pale Moon and only got ANT Video Downloader + ABL extensions installed.
Running Windows 10, never got a conflict or problem of any kind.

Two days ago, Youtube videos started behaving weird with HTML5 errors shown and videos not allowing for resolution choices. At the same time, CYS stopped working for no reason.
Tried to reinstall it, tweaked some Pale Moon MSE settings, no luck. I can list the different file types + resolution, but the "Save as" popu up won't appear. The "Download to default" no longer works either.

To my knowledge, there have been no updates on my extensions and nothing changed on my system (apart from the usual Adobe Flash updates) and CYS should still be supported with Pale moon. Thanks in advance for your help.

Has it occurred to you that this may be caused by a change on YouTube?

Sorry I don't understand your question, I have not seen an annoucement/alert associated to this on Youtube.

I experienced video playback errors like the ones I'm facing lately in the past, but it happened on several browsers, not just Pale Moon.
I checked https://www.youtube.com/html5 and noticed two "errors" for MSE and h264. Is this the root cause ? have I missed a recent change on Youtube ?

Now that I think about it, I've never been able to watch videos properly on Dailymotion since they implemented their new layout. I only got sound. I'm still able to downlad the videos their using ANT though.
I'm puzzled really :|

Hahaha... Yeah, I don't think they announce most changes.

I don't know the details on this, but I know it's been mentioned a lot here on the forum. Searching may be helpful.

Right. I posted to get some help and was not expecting sarcasm as a response.

If the issue is with Youtube changes, I'm interested in feedback for other video download extensions. I can't tell if the MSE and h264 errors were existing before the issue appeared.
Is there any log I could collect/check to grab a relevant error ?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be sarcastic, honest. According to some threads, uninstalling an HEVC codec may help with MSE and H.264 problems.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a video downloading extension that worked properly and wasn't adware; perhaps someone else can advise. I'm also not sure about such a log, but something tells me these (downloading YouTube videos and MSE and H.264 problems) are not the same issue.

My "Complete YouTube Saver" stopped working two days ago also. I suspect Youtube has made some changes. Unfortunately, the CYS developer's website states that the software is presently being completely rewritten and that there will be no new updates to the current one. That leaves us a problem, as none of the older versions of downloaders for Firefox work anymore either (yes, I tried the most of the popular ones, I think, yesterday).

Regards,

K.

No issues here if i would on Windows 8 decide to activate MSE in combination with MP4 - tested several videos, all play as they should. Can change resolution and getting no errors.

Anyway, try to search as it was recommended in Windows 10 for the HEVC entry and remove it. Also, you can grab the portable Pale Moon version and use it's fresh profile to make sure that there is no other issue for your problems with Youtube: http://www.palemoon.org/palemoon-portable.shtml

OMG! All this time, it was really that extension that caused all the trouble! Thank you, Sajadi. I've uninstalled it just now. The result, HTML5 video playback has returned to Pale Moon, and I can choose again multiple resolutions on Youtube. Good. Lesser reliance on Basilisk and I can finally remove Flash (again).

Enabling MSE for Webm solved the issue for most Youtube videos but with some exceptions here and there. That allowed for ANT Video Downloader to be used properly with selectable resolutions for download.

I am not using third party codecs on my machine, same for a Windows 7 laptop on which I'm experiencing the same behavior. I've been using Windows 10 1709 for a while on my pc, so I understand the issue has no direct link to the HEVC codec ?

I am not sure what the best practices are for Pale Moon when it comes to MSE settings, hope we can identify the root cause of this trouble and apply a suitable solution eventually.
I just tried NetVideoHunter and it seems to do the job pretty fine. Thank you for pointing to that extension, happy to see I can fall back on alternatives

CYD stopped working for me, too, it only displays a rotating circle instead of its menu.

I tried a few others, they download videos of 0 byte length :(
rlcoone wrote:I use NetVideoHunter http://netvideohunter.com/
Doesn't work also, it says it should display the video on the left side but said left side is empty :( Edit: It works on Vimeo. Looks like youtube is welcome to my blocklist again.

***For now***, you can get Complete YouTube Saver working again by downgrading to version 31.

Go here: https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/complete-yt-saver/

Click the 5.7.31 link under "Previous Releases".

For Firefox, go here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/complete-youtube-saver/versions/

Scroll down to "Version 5.7.31," and click the "Add to Firefox" button.

I haven't tried but I'm betting this won't work or will result in 0 byte files for Vevo and other such videos.

As a fallback, I just use youtube-dl: https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/

It's command line only but is constantly being updated and works on hundreds of other sites besides YouTube.

For best quality audio/video in mp4 format for YouTube, run:

Code: Select all

youtube-dl.exe -f "bestvideo[ext=mp4]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/best[ext=mp4]/best" "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxxxxx"
Where xxxxxxxxxxx is the video ID.

If a site is supported, you only need run youtube-dl.exe "http://www.url.com" and it will download the best quality audio/video by default. On YouTube, if a .webm or other format has a larger file size, it will assume that is the best quality, so if you want the .mp4 dash format, you need to use the above command line options.

I knew there was probably a front end for it but I hadn't taken the time to look. Thanks for the link! :)

Meanwhile I use https://hooktube.com/ - has not as many option as C.Y.S. but all I need, including the possibility to download audio and video separately (as used/done by the DASH format), which then could possibly merged together "by hand" using ffmpeg which was already used by C.Y.S. "Could possibly" just because I haven't tried yet, but I'm quite sure it would work.
