As a fallback, I just use youtube-dl: https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/

It's command line only but is constantly being updated and works on hundreds of other sites besides YouTube.

In the past I used a script for Greasemonkey that added download buttons to YouTube. So just remember, if there's no add-on available for what ever it is you need, there may be a Greasemonkey script that can do the job. I use a script to download Pandora music. Granted it's in m4a format, but I convert it to mp3. I mostly just buy the tracks I want at Amazon though. I mean, for a buck you can't beat it and then it syncs to Amazon Echo.
