OverbiteFF - extension
OverbiteFF (extension) by "The Overbite Project"
I just stumbled over it here and user comments here
User (and developer) comments are what drew me to the addon.
"Gopher" protocol predates http but there appear to be some dedicated users and demand for OverbiteFF, particularly for academic research papers.
nothing like 5 minutes in wiki to learn something. The web didn't exist when I did my university stuff.
I might be in over my head here ... the developer appears to be exasperated with the lack of support for web extensions ...
is it an addon that would be compatible with PM

Re: OverbiteFF - extension
OverBite FF has been compatible with Pale Moon - it's why I suggested it to people who were asking for gopher support in the browser.

@ Moonchild
I will try and contact the developer to see if he/she is willing to openly support Pale Moon.
With some further digging, the new-look AMO has a tiny note at the bottom of the "broadsheet" web-page
References:
PM compatible v3.0.1627.1 (Jan-2013) ... 2013, almost 5 years ago
Current (PM incompatible) v3.1.1696 (Mar-2017) a few months ago
All OverbiteFF versions Histories

In versions-list v3.1.1694 (Jan-2016) looks like where major changes were madeUpdated to explicitly mark not multiprocess compatible.
A WE-compatible version is currently pending sufficient APIs to support functionality.

Re: OverbiteFF - extension
The version compatible with WebExtensions is OverbiteWX, but due to API limitations the only things that it does is redirect Gopher requests using the Floodgap proxy.bawldiggle wrote:With some further digging, the new-look AMO has a tiny note at the bottom of the "broadsheet" web-pageUpdated to explicitly mark not multiprocess compatible.

Even though Pale Moon marks this version as incompatible, the extension works well and I can open gopher:// links without problems.bawldiggle wrote:Current (PM incompatible) v3.1.1696 (Mar-2017) a few months ago

Re: OverbiteFF - extension
I use OverbiteFF 3.0.1627.1-signed, and it works perfectly.

OverbiteFF is almost gone ...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... verbiteff/
"We cannot find .... "
BUT is still available for Seamonkey (and Fox) and I assume PaleMoon
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/se ... verbiteff/
... but for how long
I have had no replies from the developer, I assume because there are no web APIs ... the demise of another extension
