Looking for staus update on passifox & keepasshttp

Unread post by galaxysurfer » 2017-10-29, 02:05

Looking for status update or an alternative for Palemoon. I would like to use KeepassXC with Palemoon. Basically i want a local/self hosted alternative to Lastpass which is no longer compatible with Palemoon anyways. I know I can still access my data via browser to their website but this is only a temp fix for me until I can setup a Keepass setup that will work with Palemoon. Only looking for an open source setup.

KeeFox 1.4.8b1 works with Pale Moon, but be aware of the phishing attack vulnarability posted at https://www.kee.pm/2016/11/21/security-update-released/ - we really could do with a forked version...

Forked extensions :
● Add-ons Inspector ● Auto Text Link ● Copy As Plain Text ● Copy Hyperlink Text ● FireFTP button replacement ● gSearch Bar ● Navigation Bar Enhancer ● New Tab Links ● Number Tabs ● Print Preview Button and Keyboard Shortcut 2 ● Scrollbar Search Marker ● Simple Marker ● Tabs To Portfolio ● Update Alert ● Web Developer's Toolbox ● Zap Anything

Hint: If you expect a reply to your PM, allow replies...

I can't stress it enough how much we need a keepass add-on for pale moon. This is the only thing is preventing me from making pale moon my default web browser.

Me too. I'm trying around, still not sure. But for me:

palemoon 27.8.3(64-bit) on arch linux

KeeFox1.4.8 does not work (because not compatible with the KeePassRPC plugin (i tried either that one from the manjaro repositories as those from the keepass plugin site). But keefox1.7.2 does. I installed it via the Moon Tester Tool.

Otoh, the extension passifox 1.2.2 (also installed by Tester Tool) apparently works too - i only have a few fill in problems with a very little number of login pages. I presume in a correct way there should be at least a mini interface, to do some settings (like port setting etc.). This is not available for me, but it can be done, in a somehow "handish" way, by accessing about:config

(Since i have, just in case, also iron-chrome running, but for chrome i did not find kee, but chromeIpass (which relies, as passifox, on the keepasshttp plugin - so, if passifox stays viable for palemoon would be the preferred choice).

As the people who develops the extensions, not us.

I've been using KeePassXC with Palemoon, without the keepassxc-browser integration by simply using the auto-type shortcut keys. When a login page pops up I simply hit the key combination and it finds the required login, then I simply click on it to auto-type it into the login screen. While this isn't as quick as a click on the login field, it actually might be more secure. Because each step requires acknowledge that the interchange is happening. For quite a while I've used it with Konqueror, Vivaldi, Chrome, and other browsers, because it is universal and doesn't require a "native or http" background stream. HTH, Cheers

Thanks for the tip BrianA_MN (and welcome to the forum). Can you please describe in a few numbered steps exactly what you do e.g. which applications are being opened, closed, minimised etc during those steps and button presses? I'm considering whether it's worth replacing my current password setup.

How to use KeepassXC with Pale Moon without PassIFox or KeepassHTTP-Conncector.

Install KeePassXC per your operating system instructions.
Create a Database or import your existing kdbx file, it should have at least the Pale Moon Forum login credentials in it to follow my example.
Go to KeePassXC Settings and on the General page click on the Auto-Type tab
Create a Global Auto-Type shortcut. I use the left Windows Key (Meta) + c. (My habit for copying is to use Ctrl+c to copy a highlighted selection and this feels similar and is one key over from Ctrl)
Click the "Apply" button, then save the database.
Now open a site, like the PaleMoon Forum, and click on login.
When that screen opens, simply hit the Windows+C together and it should pop-up the PaleMoon forum login credentials for you click on and it will auto-type your username and password in to the login.

Now there are some basic things in every KeePassXC entry which must exist for auto-type to work correctly. We'll use the PaleMoon database entry as example.
First open the PaleMoon entry. Mine is Titled "PaleMoon Forum". All fields on the "Entry" page need to be complete, including the proper URL: "https://forum.palemoon.com/login".
Second in the left panel go down to the AutoType page. The "Enable Auto-Type for this entry" must be ticked, "Inherit default Auto-Type sequence" from the group is selected, and the sequence should show {USERNAME} {TAB} {PASSWORD} {ENTER}, note the spaces between close-open brackets. The "Windows Associations" filed can help you to use a wild card "*" so that if you accidentally have the browser send it ID it can be ignored. For my ebay logins it simply has: * | ebay * This means both PaleMoon and Konqueror, which pass their own title to KeePassXC, will find this entry. Read more about windows associations wild cards in the KeePassXC documentation.

HTH, Cheers

Thanks BrianA_MN, I'll try it soon. Sounds promising.

update: tried it, works nicely, very highly recommended for Pale Moon if you don't want to use the internal password manager (which is quite good).
