uBlock Origin Updater

Since uBlock Origin can no longer be automatically updated from AMO (because only WebExtension versions are served there now), I created a helper extension that provides updates directly from GitHub. It intercepts Add-ons Manager requests and returns the latest release version compatible with Pale Moon.

Here it is: uBlock Origin Updater. Questions, suggestions and bug reports are welcomed.

Worked great. I was a version behind and was updated to uBlock Origin 1.14.10.

Thanks a lot! I just hope we won't get to a point where most extensions will need their own separate updater-extension - though this is a special case. :)

Since you did ask for questions, I do have one.

I realize the nuts and bolts of how it works (you explained it above).

But when does it work?

Do I have to open up uBlock origin in the addons manager, and then go to the gear icon above, and manually ask it to update?

Does PM every so often, send update requests whenever PM is started, and these requests will be sent to Github instead of AMO----or how/when?

uBlock Origin Updater has been updated to 1.1.0:
  • Option to update to beta/RC versions
  • Support SeaMonkey & Firefox (unsigned, for ESR etc)
  • Serve own updates using GitHub (for SeaMonkey & Firefox)

uBlock Origin Updater does its job for both manual and background updates.

It would be great if Thunderbird could be included as well.

Also, what version of Firefox? Is it only for ESR?

Only for ESR, because it could accept XUL extensions.

I think it's not for 57+ because it rejects XUL extensions.

Thunderbird support has been added in 1.1.1 (released only on GitHub).

For any version of Firefox 45+ that is compatible with uBlock Origin and allows you to install unsigned add-ons.
