uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
Looking at Raymond Hill's Releases page at GitHub, it looks like uBlock Origin will go completely Web Extension. Does anyone know if he plans to continue with XUL support for PM & SeaMonkey. Or are we stuck with the current version forever?
Githacks advises sticking with the "legacy" (XUL) version of uBlock Origin. But will that continue to be updated?

Re: uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
Its a manual script blocker so i cant see an issue with using the present version forever more. The filters can be updated manually and i use a given set of domains and scripts to block.Wouldnt really matter if its updated or not as it still serves its purpose.

Can't find the link now, but he has said he will continue support for the XUL version.

Yes, for future releases you'll just have to get the uBlock0.firefox.xpi file from here:back2themoon wrote:he has said he will continue support for the XUL version.

EDIT:
Just wondering..
Has anyone officially asked the developer of uBlock Origin if he'd be interested in hosting the XUL version at palemoon.org?
Re: uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
I just installed uBlock Origin 1.13.9rc5 web extension in Firefox 55.0.2 and I didn't notice any difference between web extension and legacy add-on.
I hope I'll be able to use uBlock Origin in the future in Pale Moon since it is my default browser.

The latest web extension version at AMO is uBlock Origin 1.13.9rc5.

Re: uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
So if I understand correctly these latest rc versions are hybrids? Is version 1.13.8 a hybrid also? I really don't want any hybrids.

Re: uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
They're release candidates or beta versions. The hybrid is to install on FF 55.x before the full web extension install. This is so the web extension will retain all the settings from the standard install of UBO.

I don't even see how to contact him to invite him. His contributing guidelines make it pretty clear he wants only bug reports, not any support requests or discussion, and will not hesitate to ban users who violate his guidelines.Tomaso wrote:Just wondering..

Re: uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
uBlock Origin v1.13.10 has been released:
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/1.13.10/
(Install using 'uBlock0.firefox.xpi')
--
EDIT:
Browsing actually feels a bit smoother with this latest release, compared to the previous stable.
Not by much, but it's noticable to me.

Re: uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
I see that the latest version 1.13.10 is a hybrid . . .
Upon closer inspection, it looks like there's 3 different ones, a hybird, legacy and a pure webextension. But I can't get any of them to download.
EDIT:This is the webext-hybrid version of uBlock Origin to be published on AMO.

Works just fine from my end.helloimustbegoing wrote:I can't get any of them to download.
If you're having difficulties, try to right-click on 'uBlock0.firefox.xpi' and choose "Save Link As".
..then install by dragging the file into Pale Moon's add-ons manager (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).
Re: uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
might be because you're using NoScript which intercepts the connection to the download server. in my case i had a notification from Noscript and had to allow the connection (which Noscript interprets as domain hijacking? i don't quite remember) in order to downloadhelloimustbegoing wrote:Upon closer inspection, it looks like there's 3 different ones, a hybird, legacy and a pure webextension. Re: uBlock Origin going Web Extensions
I would be more than happy to bring that up in the uBlock subreddit, where he said that discussion like that belongs.
In addition to the obvious benefit of opening himself up to more uBlock users (by having PM users see it listed as a genuine PM extension), are there other points I can bring up there?
