A few minutes ago I manually checked for add-on updates and was surprised to see that something like ten of my add-ons, out of the 30ish add-ons I use, needed updating. Generally, when I manually check for updates only one or two add-ons need updating.
This leads me to believe that Pale Moon either:
1. Isn't updating add-ons automatically.
Or:
2. Is only checking for them once in a blue moon (no pun intended).
I realize that computer savvy people tend to prefer to manually update add-ons themselves. But I find that to be a bit of a pain and would prefer if it was fully automated like it used to be.
(Before anyone asks, yes—Pale Moon is set to automatically check for add-on updates):
Thanks!

Not sure if this is the same as
Pnume's report above (EDIT: It isn't!) but whilst writing/posting reply to
paadt's topic
Plugins Check:
http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php ... 8926#p8926 today I initially opened Pale Moon Add-ons Manager page, selected Plugins
and clicked "Check for Updates" under Gearwheel icon.... "No updates found" was reported. I then opened the Mozilla Support "Check Your Plugins" page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ and it opened showing two updates were in fact available - Java(TM) Platform SE7 U9 and Silverlight Plugin 5.
So is Pale Moon's built-in update checker utility misbehaving - in manual and/or automatic modes?
EDIT 1: Answer = Case not proven. Reason = Invalid/incorrect/insufficient test applied. See
dark_moon's correction below!
EDIT 2: @
dark_moon: Thanks for the correction!

Pale Moon and Firefox never check for plugins in the way you test it. Only with the plugincheck testsite you can check updates for plugins.
The Button to check for updates is only for addons. But i agree, the automatic check for addons don't work in Pale Moon

Ah, so it's not working for you either?
I hope this will be fixed in the next version of Pale Moon.

I'm not entirely sure why this stopped working. What you can try is using the manual update server @ mozilla.org to check in the background, by copying the url from extensions.update.url to extensions.update.background.url

I am not sure that is the same issue, but it is similar because the add-ons involved are not changing version in my PaleMoon 15.2 plugin interface, although they should after updating their applications( VideoLAn 2.0.4 and Flash Player 11.4.402.287),which I have just done in my Win Xp home, and that after installation still cannot change in PaleMoon; contrarily a former update of Java under this PaleMoon version has beeen successful: I may think that it was just a single user problem but now, after the latest Flash error, it seems to be a bug.
Thank you,
Paolo

OK, to get things straight here:
You are trying to have
plugins updated
You are looking at the setting for
add-ons (which are
not plugins)
Plugins can
only be checked by going to the
plugin checking web page supplied by Mozilla - they
cannot be automatically checked and updated from
within the browser (this is because the browser does not have control over plugins)

The tip didn't work, Moonchild
PM don't check for updates and if i check manual they tell my that updates were installed, but this wasn't correct.
So i set the settings back to normal, but it don't work too.
Only if i check manuel for updates, then PM found them and install them

That's really odd. I'll have to have a closer look at that then. No idea where to start looking though, since I haven't touched that code (it's 100% equal to Mozilla Firefox) and the URL should work, too. It's the problem with not knowing what they have running server-side on AMO, or in what way the background check is different from the manual one.

I know is a pain to look for updates but is worst when you have dial-up, often if you work offline the browser greets you with the update add-on screen and you cannot run to connect since anyway it marks itself as offline and discard all updates. Same with Acrobat and Flash updaters, so I prefer do it manually, since it seems that automatic processes always choose the worst moment for do its work.

Not "don't seem", it doesn't work at all, for the scripts it's the same, and i think it's very annoying. With Firefox it works perfectly.

It seems the AMO update checker doesn't like Pale Moon's current versions.
To fix:
In about config, find the preference:
extensions.update.background.url
It will have the value:
https://versioncheck-bg.addons.mozilla. ... ILITY_MODE%
Change this to (change highlighted):
https://versioncheck-bg.addons.mozilla. ... rsion=15.0[/highlight]&appOS=%APP_OS%&appABI=%APP_ABI%&locale=%APP_LOCALE%¤tAppVersion=%CURRENT_APP_VERSION%&updateType=%UPDATE_TYPE%&compatMode=%COMPATIBILITY_MODE%
This will satisfy AMO's server-side version check and give you automatic updates. It's still unclear why the manual check would succeed but the background check would fail. Only the AMO server admins will know, I guess.

Thanks, i'll give you the feedback if it works. Also i really don't understand the interet of this line: "Reset update for all add-ons"
If the box is checked why we need that? In French i have "Activer" instead of "Réactiver" it's not clear...

You can set automatic update settings for each individual extension you have installed (with the "more" links) - this menu entry resets the setting to your default global choice for all installed extensions (i.e.: it clears the individual choices you may have made)

Nice. I hope this will work.
Will this fix be implemented in future versions of Pale Moon?

@ Moonchild
Ah ok thank you, good to know especially for those who prefer to keep an eye on Wladimir in future...
And even with the modification the update for add-ons do not work for me.
