paste and search addon broke

Post by resunoomelap » 2025-06-15, 22:40

so few years later, found pm not working with cloudflare, upgraded pm, paste and search addon broke. cannot find paste and search addon on pm ext list.

copy w/e and be able to right click, click paste and search and search any search box.

its a really convenient addon. rather paste then click search.

And it's totally unnecessary because the feature is built in. Get rid of it.

If I'm understanding, he's speaking of something different.

Not a "Paste & go" - into the urlbar,
But a Paste & search into a dialog box, like a dialog box found in this thread, viewtopic.php?f=46&t=32464.

The box says (Search this topic...).

And he'd like to 'Paste & sesarch' into there.
As it is, you can Paste, but then you additionally need to hit <CR> :-).

Maybe post the extension somewhere, & someone might download it & take a look at it & see if then can fix it for current PM ?

"Paste and Search" is a function of the built-in search bar.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I do not see a "paste and search" (and I won't know what it does, soi I do not miss it) in the menu on Linux Pale Moon (33.7.2. GTK2). Is it a windowism ?

It must be. I use MacOS and I do not see that either.

On this particular hard drive at this time of this posting, I am running 64 bit linux Pale Moon 33.7.2 (GTK2) running in 64 bit Linux Mint 22.1 (Xia) Xfce.

I just put back my Search box and when I right clicked on it, Paste & Search is there, but it is "grayed out" in color so it does not work. But I have never used the Search box and this is why I have relegated it to Customize in Mint, MX Linux and Debian.

No. I even went in to check the relevant code, and it inserts below wherever the "Paste" menu entry is (by cmd reference). It's not OS-specific.

As others have said, Paste and Search is not a windowism

I myself have it on my palemoon web browser and I am currently on a linux flavor myself.

Copy something to the clipboard and then try, it must be because there's nothing to paste.

That's correct. If there's no suitable data on the clipboard it will be greyed out.

"Paste and Search (Forms) reloaded" 0.0.2.1 by Moonchild, is available at Classic Add-ons Archive when you have the "Classic Add-ons Archive" add-on installed. I have "Paste and Search (Forms) reloaded" installed on an old laptop. I find that "Paste and Search (Forms) reloaded" works most of the time, maybe 95%+ of the time, occasionally it doesn't, but when it does work, it's great. It's an old unmaintained add-on, so no high expectations here. Plus, maybe, my Pale Moon profile on that laptop might be a bit dodgy. I would of liked to have installed it on my new laptop, but when I try to install anything at Classic Add-ons Archive (with "Classic Add-ons Archive" add-on installed) I get "Pale Moon can't find the server at ca-archive.us.to." I don't know why. I'm not tech savvy. This is also happening on my old laptop now too. I have the latest versions
of Pale Moon installed on both laptops.

My point is, install the "Classic Add-ons Archive" add-on at https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive/r ... /tag/2.0.3 and then try to install "Paste and Search (Forms) reloaded" 0.0.2.1 at Classic Add-ons Archive. You might have success.

About this Add-on:
Adds "Paste and Search" to context menu entry - so any marked text on a web-page or from clipboard can be used to search the web for it in any form-field immediately. This makes clicking the go-button(s) redundant.

What would be really nice, is, if this was a feature in the browser (Pale Moon). Hint Hint.

I didn't know of this Pale Moon function in the search box, nice!

A bit adjacent as a feature that works with selected text, I love the Context Search X add-on.

In CAA you need to right click and select "Save as", download and then drag the *.xpi into a PM window to install.

Nevertheless I do not see it ... could be GTK2 ? could be something in about:config ? Not that I care about using it, just curious,

@Lucio, look at my screenshots. Cursor needs to be in urlbar /searchbar. There you should see it - as a right-click context-menu item.

(I've not tried to put in the extension...)

Note the difference between Paste & Go (urlbar) Paste & Search (searchbar)
& wanting to Paste & Search in an arbitrary form "search" field
(which is what I'm assuming the extension accomplishes?).

Oh, so installed, & it does look to work.

1. clipboard contents
2. search form now has 'Paste & Search' option
3. a search for clipboard contents (red train) fails to find any hits in this thread
(but, if i try now... it may just ;-))
.
Palemoon - Paste And Search Forms is working.png
.
Paste And Search just found a red train (as was Pasted & Searched).

"Paste and Search" is a function of the built-in search bar.
Which is the search bar you inconveniently removed from your UI ;)
And yes, that would be in the context menu (right-click menu) on that bar.

I read only "built-in" (so I assumed Edit menu) and overlooked "search bar" (which I got rid of). Now all clear. Sorry.
