Is there a Youtube Ad Blocking Extenstion for PM?
I use PM and FF. I have ad blockers for Youtube on FF but was looking for one to use on PM as well and could not find one. Am I missing something?
Thanks for any help.

Why don't use Invidious?

Re: Is there a Youtube Ad Blocking Extenstion for PM?
I never used anything specific for YouTube, just uBlock Origin regardless of the browser.
Invidious is useless to me as it forces AV1 codec if you enable DASH, they don't support VP9 for some stupid reason. That said, I'm keeping an eye on Piped, seems better than last time I tried it, maybe I'll switch to it permanently one of these days.
With niche community such as this one, don't expect any of the bigger extensions for any of the big websites to be ever adapted for Pale Moon.

I found a subscription list for uBlock Origin (also works in AdGuard) which blocks most YouTube ads.

Re: Is there a Youtube Ad Blocking Extenstion for PM?
I visit YouTube everyday searching mostly for surfing videos. I also do "not" have a YouTube account. Since I do not have a YouTube account, I do "not" see very many ads on YT because I use the Permissions Manager in Pale Moon where I target YouTube.
What I am getting at is this. When you visit YouTube, YT puts a cookie, out of many cookies, in Pale Moon which targets your adblocker. The Permissions Manager keeps the ads at bay if you do not have a YT account. But most people prefer an extension whereas I do not use an extension.
The ad I mostly see is when I land on my targeted video and the ad is mostly for YouTube TV. But that is it.
If you "have" a YouTube account, I do not think the Permissions Manager will be very much help. With a YouTube account, you're going to see lots of ads because you will let the cookie which targets your adblocker be placed in Pale Moon. This is the long and short of it.

Because it (and similar front-ends) doesn't support youtube accounts and therefore no access to playlists, liking videos or posting comments.

As mentioned, no need for specific YouTube extensions. Use one of the two recently updated versions of uBlock Origin (more info here on the forum) with proper filterlists. The defaults should probably be enough.
Keep in mind that YouTube keeps trying to enforce ads and bypass adblockers. Cat and mouse game.

Looks like I'm not switching to Piped, still has odd issues, playlists not working, sometimes search isn't working, today I can't play anything at all. It'd be nice to have a reliable alternative to that mess that is YouTube's UI.

Wow, thanks, I actually saw it mentioned in one of the support / web compatibility threads, but then totally forgot about it, even though I was going to try it out, looks very promising!

I tried the userscript version, it's marvelous! Can't imagine a userscript could apply a time machine on Youtube and bring back the old sensible desktop style UI!

Re: Is there a Youtube Ad Blocking Extenstion for PM?
I wasn't sure where to post this, but is it just me or has Youtube managed to overcome adblockers? I can't watch anything in the past week or so, there are up to 40s long ads I can't skip, two in a row or so, and it usually freezes after the first one, and when I hit refresh, it starts all over. Holy shit.

Just you. Check your configuration, filterlists (no need for too many or anything special) etc. Don't if VPN's might also cause issues.

That makes no sense. I use Youtube in Firefox and I didn't change anything about the settings.

Ensure your filter subscriptions are up to date, any adblocker is only as good as its filters.LuftWafflePilot wrote: ↑2024-07-31, 05:41That makes no sense. I use Youtube in Firefox and I didn't change anything about the settings.

I wouldn't be so adamant about "no sense". You forgot the main moving part: YouTube. That will keep changing beyond your control. Other factors are also at play. Not all millions of users experience the same effects at the same time.

Re: Is there a Youtube Ad Blocking Extenstion for PM?
Like I mentioned before in this topic thread. I do not have a YouTube account. I use the old uBlock Origin 1.16.4.30 adblocker for Pale Moon and Pale Moon's Permissons Manager to keep YouTube's "irrelevant ads at the gate" so to speak.
The only ad I see when I want to watch or listen to a YouTube video is the one ad for YouTube TV and I just click "Dismiss" and then I listen or watch the video. I never see an ad in the middle of a video either.
I have my YouTube music playlist in my Thunar file Manager in the Mint, MX Linux and Debian linux distros. My main music library and my music videos are also backed up on two large thumb drives. And it is easy for me to find things in my file manager or on those two thujmb drives.
My prone surfing, standup paddleboard and sleep YouTube videos are on my Bookmarks Toolbar in three different folders which are Surf-B, Sup-V and Sleep. So I do not need a YouTube playlist which one has when they have a YouTube account. If I did have a YouTube account, it would basically be a redundancy for what I have now. My way is an easy way to block ads on YouTube.
If one wants to have a YouTube account and needs all the amenities which go along with a YouTube account, then they will have to put up with irrelevant ads which they do not want to see and find a way to block those ads and that is going to be the hard way since YouTube is going to keep finding ways to block adblockers. The old "whack-a-mole".
My gut feeling is, YouTube is going to lose the war against adblockers because their war against adblockers is stampeding users to "encourage" them to create adblockers for YouTube. This is the old; "Find a way to block YouTube's ads and if one cannot find a way, make a way" tried and true solution.
I could be wrong on what I am about to say; but I think Google's CEO and since Google owns YouTube, in the end the CEO will realize he is fighting a constant and losing battle against adblockers. My calculated guess is, I do not think users will pony up $13.99/month ($167.88 yearly) to not see irrelevant ads because the price is too steep.
I say this because "everything" in the last four years has drastically gone up in price in our country (USA). A trip to the grocery store is one example.

Re: Is there a Youtube Ad Blocking Extenstion for PM?
It's weird because some videos don't have ads and some have TWO 20s ones (at the beginning), and there isn't even a skip button! WTF is that? And those ads I get are on channels that previously had none, so I really wonder what the hell Youtube changed this time.
Btw there's no "purge all caches" on Ublock in Firefox, so while I assume the filters are always up to date, there's no way to force then. But considering what I'm seeing is consistent for over a week, I guess it's safe to say it's not a fault on my end. Either way, Youtube is absolutely unwatchable for me now
