NoSquint Thread

Unread postby EbonJaeger » Mon, 11 Jun 2018, 19:47

This is to help me keep track of things, and also for you guys to see what's changed in NoSquint updates.

First item here is the update to 2.2.0!

Changelog:
  • Implement zooming when scrolling over the status panel
  • Switch from one progress listener per tab to one global TabsProgressListener (seems to fix media player display issues as well)
  • Minor code cleanup and modernization (still in progress)

I use this for some much time, as i know the extension is abandoned long ago, though i was encounter an update on the mozilla site, also long ago before webexts upheaval. And i wont accept that update, i use nosquint@urandom.ca 2.1.9.1-signed.1-signed.

So i ask does this update related to mozilla addon update, and for second does the code modernization means that it will performs worse on the older computers?

As far as I know, whatever was on AMO is what I forked from.

I doubt that. It means that my goal is to get it to conform to more current standards (it worries about things from Firefox 3.0! PM v28 is off of Fx 52! Stuff that hasn't been relevant in over literally a decade). If anything, that means fewer logic checks in the code because there is no more need to worry about such obsolete stuff.

There are also some parts that don't conform to any JavaScript standard, so it would be wise to fix those instances so they don't cause breakages in the future.

lol Not a problem. My main goal at the moment is to clean up un-needed stuff and to make the code actually conform to standards (most of it was written pre-2013). Not to knock the work of course, but now it will hopefully be more maintainable.

EbonJaeger:

I just installed NoSquint on Pale Moon 27.9.2, running Windows 7. I think the ability to change the text color from those pale shades that seem so popular to something that is readable and printable, is great! Thanks for creating this.

But I have one request. I can usually read the text on the webpages OK, but when I try to PRINT the pages on my black/white laser printer, the pale text colors fade into oblivion. That forces me to print on my color printer, which is very expensive replacing ink.

Would it be possible to have the page open normally (i.e., as if NoSquint was not installed), and then with something like a Ctrl Key option, NoSquint could be toggled on and off? Then one could read the webpage as it was designed, then activate NoSquint and print the page?

Perhaps something like Print Edit is more suited for this.

I have Print Edit 18.3, but I cannot find any way to change the text settings (color, size, etc.). On the attached, the author's page on Firefox shows the Format options and properties on the left, but mine show the options on the right. Clicking on any of the Quick Styles just highlights the box--it does not open up a properties list. From looking at the author's notes about 18.4, I don't see anything that addresses what I see.

Any suggestions?

Technically I didn't create it, I'm just continuing it, but I'm glad you like it!

As for the rest, there's probably a better tool suited for that, like someone else suggested. I'm not sure that really falls into the scope of NoSquint, and if it did, I don't know how much I can change things anyway.
