[Solved] Themes + pop-up boxes disappearing

Unread post by ipsirc » 2015-07-12, 11:48

I'm using Pale Moon 25.5.0 x86 on Linux, and noticed the most of the themes can't handle popup boxes properly. ( from https://addons.palemoon.org/themes/complete/ )
If I set a plugin to ask to activate, the popup flashes for a moment then disappears. Also the same effect with the remember password popup, or any popup generated by extensions.
Default theme 25.5.0 + Fox 2 the moon 1.0.5 handles correctly, but all others are failed, for example: Kempelton 4.5.2, PMChrome 1.0.6, PMOpera 1.0.4, White Moon 1.0.6.

How can I correct these themes?

I can't confirm this unfortunately, using Pale Moon x86 on Linux Mint Xfce.

Please try again after disabling all other extensions.
Off-topic:
While looking into these themes on Linux, I DID see a few other issues, which I'll get to work on soon. :)

I've disabled all extensions, and still the same.

Could you try on a fresh profile?

Bad news: i've deleted ~/.moon*, then installed only chromepm theme, and the popup is flashing again for a moment. :| With the default theme also is no problem.

I'm using palemoon build by mepis distribution. I wanted to download the stock tar.gz binary, but sf.net is still down. :-/

What distro are you running? I'm otherwise at a loss as to what the problem is here, since it works for me and nobody else has reported such an issue.

I think he is using the linux Mepis distro.

http://www.mepis.org/

MX Linux 23.2 (Libretto) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
Linux Debian 12.5 (Bookworm) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox

I'm using Debian Stretch and only the palemoon browser came from mepis.
I'd do some digging, but first of all: bad news. :-/

- I've download 25.5.0 x86 from linux.palemoon.org, and still bugging. (Fox 2 the moon is the only one plugin which handles popups correctly)
- I've found an old palemoon on my other machine, which is Debian Wheezy: 25.1.0 x86, and the very same effect :-/
- Downloaded new 25.5.0 to this wheezy machine, and still the same.
- Created a chroot jail with a brand new debian jessie, and THE SAME! :-/

I wonder that nobody can reproduce this bug. I dunno whats the difference between fox2themoon and the other themes, but fox2 is always correct. I'm using icewm. Anyone can make a try with a chrooted wheezy/jessie/stretch + icewm. It's reproducible.

Okie, it was a mistake that only the fox2 theme is correct with popups. I had a little time and tried all themes. Here's my results:

correct popups:
fox2
cute legacy
cute legacy large
qute 4 pm
noiamoon
moonfox3 (ok with remember password, but nowhere to click to activate flash)
reinheit (same as above)
pastmodern
compact moon
littlemoon

flash then disappear:
chrome
nautical
maxi3
maxi4
whitemoon
tangerinemoon
tangomoon
opera
darkness
darkpitch
xmoon
opresto
macmoon
australium
winstripe
gnome
nautical

i'm sure the bug is in browser.css, because when i mixing themes, this is the revelant modification for non/working popups.

I hope this helps you!

I've set up a Debian VM and can confirm that this is an issue.

I'll start looking into how this can be fixed.

Ah I was about to report this, but I see its already in hand. Removing the theme naturally solves the problems for me. Would be interesting to know what is so special about the Debian environment to cause this issue.

The problem has been identified and fixes are coming. ;)

For those curious: It appears that Debian specifically doesn't like the opening animations used on the popups, so it just flat out doesn't render the popup at all for some reason. What it's got against animation beats me, but...

Why are they animated, anyway?

Default style. The Windows themes typically use them.

This should now be resolved, as per v1.1.0 of all themes. :) Please report back if not, though.

I tried the 1.1.0 PMChrome theme, and all popup boxes work correctly. Thanks!

ps. Am I the only one, who thinks pmchrome should use smaller fonts in the searchbar? I made a little change in browser.css for my eyes:
font-size: 1em;
min-height: 20px;
