[Styles] Moonify those themes!

Unread post by Lootyhoof » 2015-04-04, 14:36

In my quest to port several themes, there were a few that couldn't be ported, because of licenses. Well, there is still a way, if slightly more restrictive: Apply a userstyle! :) As applying a userstyle is not actually modifying the theme's files at all, these licenses do not apply.

You can see the first such example of a userstyle I've made to override a theme here:

Moonify FT DeepDark - requires FT DeepDark 9.4.1.
Moonify Charamel/Silvermel - requires Charamel version 1.5.7(.1-signed) or Silvermel version 1.5.7(.1-signed).

In the distant past, when I used FF+TB, I liked the Whitehart themes
(which were among the few complete themes).

The author was driven away by the frequent changes and the Mozilla policy towards authors.

Is there any chance to moonify them?

To moonify a theme requires that it already be compatible with Firefox 24.x, and have a restrictive license (such that I can't fully port it).

In this particular case, however, I'd instead recommend you use the reinheit theme, which is a fork of rein. It's just as simple and clean, and the background follows the same colour as your window borders (assuming you're on Vista or above). :)

As for the Thunderbird theme...there's not really any alternative I can recommend, unfortunately. Maybe some day I'll start on FossaMail themes. ;)

Re: FossaMail Themes..

Not much is needed to be done as there is no guid issue and the UI as of yet hasn't been modified enough to cause little issues that Pale Moon has..

Well, a full port would be acceptable, too…

Thank you, looks good. And White Moon even better!

In this particular caes, Whitehart stopped at TB 3.1 and would need to be updated.

I finally got round to producing another one of these. :)

Moonify Charamel/Silvermel - requires Charamel version 1.5.7(.1-signed) or Silvermel version 1.5.7(.1-signed).

Both FT DeepDark and Charamel/Silvermel's Moonify styles are now updated for Pale Moon 26. :)

To post it properly in context, here a slight fix for Moonify FTDeepDark regarding mixed mode lock icons:

I copied the css script for Charamel and saved it as userChrome.css in the proper place, but I'm still getting garbled text in the address bar. I didn't install Stylish, is that necessary?

That fixed the garbledness, however, uBlockO's icon disappears out of the status bar, and it's not in the customize window to drag back in place. Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: If I click in the empty space where the uBlockO icon should be, I do get the uBlockO pop-up. So I guess it's "there," just invisible. Any idea how to fix it?
