Type: Extension
Issue: Sessions are only partially recovered. (I am currently using PM 26.5.0) What I mean by this is that
1) When I had two windows, one window was fully restored but the other had only one tab restored;
2) When I moved all tabs to one window, only one tab was restored in the main tab group (the one that opened by default) and the other tab groups had either just one tab or no tabs (the tab groups previously had dozens or even hundreds of tabs).
This behavior occurs regardless of whether Pale Moon was closed properly or crashed. Session manager did a good job of saving the closed/crashed tabs in their .session files (verified by trying to "load session" and spot-checking the which tabs were saved).
This behavior occurs when Pale Moon is first opened, but also when a previously saved session is loaded using Session Manager.
Cause: Unknown
Workaround: Unknown (I will try 27.0.x to see if that works)

I finally installed v27 (Portable) today, and I'm still seeing the problem. I have had Tab Groups Helper installed for quite some time now, and just now tried using it to recover my tab groups data, but again, only one tab shows up after that recovery process runs its course.
My guess is that my problem predates the one you observed using v27 (which came about because the way sessions are stored changed), and while they may be related as far as the cause is concerned, they are quite different issues.
tbh, I'm starting to freak out, because if I can't rely on my tabs and tab groups to be properly restored after a crash or on a normal restart, my workflow is totally disrupted, and I may have to change browsers (which I really, really don't want to do, I've been using Pale Moon for years and love it, it's the best). It could be that Session Manager is the problem, though, so I'm going to try different extensions to see if they can do the job.
Okay, I have the picture now. Sort of. A bit confused about having multiple windows open during a recovery. My experience of multiple windows is that it just doesn't work regarding backups/restores. Just wondering, do you have the Palemoon version of Tab Groups installed? Rather than the FF version, which could definitely cause issues.
Another thing to check. When you do the Tab Groups Helper recovery process, you should get all tab groups from that backup reinstated, BUT suspended. You then have to right click each suspended tab group and click restore to bring back the actual tab group with all tabs.
I've now taken to doing periodic exports of all tab groups to my own Tab Group Exports folder just to have a double backup. And on top of that I also Bookmark all tab groups to have a further copy of all tabs under bookmarked tab group folders.
I must not be explaining myself properly, because I don't think you understood what I wrote.
1. Multiple windows have never been a problem with session recovery before v26.5.0 -- but because one window restored and the other didn't, I moved all tabs into one window, to see if that would fix things. It didn't. It actually made things worse, since when I had multiple windows, I would get one window with all of its tabs and the other window with only one tab. With just one window, I just get one tab restored.
2. I am using the Pale Moon version of Panorama (Tab Groups), version 0.2 -- it's pretty much the first extension I install when starting a new version of PM, because it is easily available from PM's webpages.
3. As I said before, when I do the Tab Groups Helper recovery process, I get just one tab back. That's it. The other tab groups are empty (0 tabs), so there is nothing to restore there.
4. Periodic exporting, extra bookmarking, and double-backups are fine, but they are not a permanent solution for me. The whole point of using PM was to have a workflow that was easy and uncomplicated.
New stuff:
5. Pale Moon 27.0.2 is definitely crashing more frequently than earlier versions for me, with as few as 100-150 tabs "open" (most are unloaded). That's not good either.
6. On top of everything else, it appears that All-in-One Sidebar is not compatible with PM 27.0.2 -- I thought I saw it working earlier, but I must have been mistaken. It was a key part of my workflow, and I'm loathe to give it up.
It seems to me that a lot of things got broken -- compatibility-wise -- in the transition from 25.x to 27.x -- I am not exactly certain where the breakpoint is, or whether there is a single breakpoint that explains all of the problems I'm seeing. From the perspective of a user (me), it's not acceptable.
My strategy going forward: I'll look for a session manager that works with 27.02, but if I don't find one that gets all my tabs back and in the right tab groups, I'm done. I'll go back to 26.3.3 or earlier (as far back as 25.8.1 if I must) as an interim measure, but long-term, I'll probably migrate to Opera or Vivaldi or
even Firefox (despite the hideous Australis). The three keys for me are stability (as in the browser not crashing or at least guaranteeing a full restore should it crash), lightweight (in terms of resource usage, esp. RAM), and extension compatibility. Right now, PM is not meeting two out of three.
