I can't find NoScript

Hey, did something happen to NoScript? I was having a problem wherein some of my Pale Moon user information (cookies, passwords, etc.) kept disappearing for no reason; so I backed up my bookmarks then started from scratch with a new moonchild.productions directory. Anyway, Now I'm trying to reinstall my script blocker; but when I enter "script" in the plugins search engine, Pale Moon can't find any related plug-ins.

That search function now only searches the addons.palemoon.org site, and NoScript is not hosted on that site.

You can get it here:

Thanks. Did PM stop hosting NoScript due to its lack of support for PM?

Mainly because of various problems it has reportedly caused. There's more information here:

And for the record, a subsequent (and sometimes heated) discussion here:

The thing I don't understand yet is, the search engine isn't showing me any other add-ons involving scripts, either. Are all known script-related add-ons now outside our purview? In one of the threads you showed, I saw a different add-on called Uscript, and tried to find it; I can't. Or this one called "YesScript" that they mentioned.

The search function in Pale Moon's add-on manager will currently only find extensions that are hosted on the addons.palemoon.org site. If you can't find something via that search function, that means that it is not hosted at http://addons.palemoon.org/extensions/.

A search via your search engine of choice (DDG, Google, etc.) should be able to point you in the direction of where those particular extensions can be downloaded/installed.

Off-topic:
Reasons like this is why I always download and save the .xpi files of all my favorite extensions. ;)

That's not off-topic.

From the IRC just now:
18:52 <@Tobin> And tell them that according to add-on status page the extension dropped off the site because the
release xpi was updated but it contained an em:updateURL which causes the listing to drop off the
site
18:52 <@Tobin> All the person has to do is fix it and it will show back up
18:52 <@Tobin> Please
18:53 <@Tobin> That the add-ons team has NOT taken action against the listing
18:54 <@Tobin> Nor anyone else
It appears the addon author somehow declared it doesn't work with Pale Moon.

The old version still works for the time being. But as pointed out earlier, it's known to cause some problems.

After further troubleshooting with Tobin: it appears the problem is that there is an updateURL defined for NoScript.
19:07 <@Tobin> KlipKyle: each developer can go http://addons.palemoon.org/special/addon-status/
19:07 <@Tobin> And see their staus of their add-ons
19:07 <@Tobin> I can see all of them
19:08 <@Tobin> It simply says noscript: [ FAIL ]
19:08 <@Tobin> -!- ./datastore/addons/noscript/noscript-5.1.8.5.xpi - warning: XPI File Dropped - install.rdf
contains an updateURL
19:08 <@Tobin> -!- noscript - error: Release XPI has a problem
19:11 <@Tobin> https://github.com/Pale-Moon-Addons-Tea ... t.php#L440
19:13 <@Tobin> https://github.com/Pale-Moon-Addons-Tea ... st.php#L95
19:15 <@Tobin> The main thing is it is known that noscipt dropping off the site isn't our doing
The addons team did not intentionally remove NoScript from the addons site.

Whatever went sideways with NoScript on APMO...

The newest version of NoScript for Pale Moon is v5.1.8.5 (v5.0.6 is outdated).
It can be installed from NoScript's site at the link posted earlier by Nigaikaze.

To go directly to the xul version, just add #classic to the end of the url: https://noscript.net/getit#classic

Thanks for clearing that up.

To re-iterate:
klipkyle wrote:The addons team did not intentionally remove NoScript from the addons site.
The person responsible for having the add-on on addons.palemoon.org uploaded a version of the xpi that contains an external URL for update checks. As a security measure, the add-ons site disallows extensions that redirect update requests to external sites (they should be handled by the add-ons site). Combined with the removal of other (older) versions from APMO, this resulted in the listing being dropped from the site by action of the add-on maintainer, not by action of our add-ons team.

In that case NoScript would be a candidate to be listed externally ("Submit your Add-on to the site: Indexing your Add-on"). (In fact as I recall, an external url for update checks is actually a hard requirement for external listings.)

It sounds like the external update url was a side effect of dealing with Mozilla's recent deprecation of multiple update channels on AMO. NS changelog:
v 5.1.8.5
=============================================================
x Switched to unified update URL for Quantum beta and Classic
x Automatic updates test
+ Updates for NoScript Classic are now served directly from
secure.informaction.com due to beta channel deprecation and
other problems with dual branches on AMO

Has anyone contacted Giorgio Maone to let him know what happened and suggest an external listing?

NoScript is back on APMO, it's an external listing that links to its homepage:

and um, do a search for other post on noscript - it is preferred to not have too many refs in one post... :)
