Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
in addition to what I reported in my previous post, I’m noticing two problems that interfere with the daily use of Pale Moon on my very vintage MacBook.
• A lot of video can’t be played. with or without messages of error, whatever platform is involved (YouTube, Facebook, X/Twitter, Mastodon). I tried to fix these failures by switching the user agent to Gecko and to Native, but with no avail.
• WhatsApp Web can’t be used because its activation QR Code is not displayed, so the smartphone camera can’t detect it.
Do you think that it could be useful to totally erase Firefox (both Pale Moon and the old Firefox 46) from the HD and then make a "clean" installation of Pale Moon?
Happy Christmastime to ya all.

Re: Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
Can you post some links to videos that won't play?
Re: Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
In practice, ALL embedded videos (reels and videos posted on Facebook, X, Mastodon, shared on WhatsApp, and videos on websites) do not start playing "due to technical problems".
Over half of the links to videos on YouTube randomly experience the same issue. I did some tests using a MacBook Pro (High Sierra + Firefox), and everything played well as usual
ex:

and this is what I get:

Re: Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
I've been avoiding Facebook recently, but I loaded that up and you are correct it doesn't play...however it is not a Mac specific problem, it also doesn't play on Windows. Will see if I can diagnose it some time when I have time.
Re: Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
@dbsoft I don’t think it’s a Mac or UXP issue. I don’t have accounts for FBook, Mastodon, WhatsApp, etc, but they all display QR codes and/or embedded videos fine on my forked browsers which are built upon UXP. Might be an over agressive mozconfig or compiler options used for Pale Moon? Any extensions blocking media? Anyway, hope this might help narrow it down on your end without having to dig too deep.
Attached are 3 images of said sites working fine for me.

Re: Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
Interesting, thanks for the info... I tried it on Intel Mac and Windows x64 and it gave me that unable to play message on both.
Re: Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
Facebook: The issue seems to be that MSE is feeding blobs to the browser that can't be decoded
If you disable MSE, the video plays.
Code: Select all
Media resource blob:https://www.facebook.com/d21a340d-11a5-4c97-9543-a6b132a8c135 could not be decoded.

Re: Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
I take it that MSE is Media Source Extensions? The only setting I can see about media source in about:config is this: media.sourceErrorDetails.enabled. How would one disable MSE, then?
Re: Pale Moon, Qr Code and Video
Preferences -> Content -> tab "Media", "video" group of checkboxes.
